- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2019Color: CoreyVerified PurchaseI recently purchased the 3-Legged Thing Punks Travis tripod, the bigger brother to the Corey. I was so impressed with Travis I turned around and ordered the Corey. The first one I received was defective - with a bad center column and one leg wasn't quite right. I returned it and it was immediately replaced with another Corey - this one is perfect!
Obviously, you can read the dimensions and see all the images on the 3-Legged Thing website, but to handle it in person and see the transformation from such a compact package folded up and then to extend it out - with the 2-section center column extended fully - at 5'10" I can very comfortably stand upright with only a slight crouch to look through the viewfinder in landscape orientation. When I open up "Travis" to what is full working height for me, it is only slightly higher than Cory is fully extended. This is quite a contrast to the Manfrotto BeFree tripod this is replacing. While folded they are very close in size, the Manfrotto was way shorter when completely extended.
The tripod is very solid for its size and weight, very well built, and honestly it is the coolest looking tripod around! The Arca Swiss compatible head and plates are very nice - the plates I received have the protruding bolt heads that act as a kind of safety - keeps the camera from sliding out should the clamp come loose. There is not a lever lock on the clamp - just a twist knob, which works fine for me.
The versatility is insane - three leg positions, the widest of which is practically flat out. You can reverse the center column - or remove it and put the head alone on the legs. That coupled with the widest leg position will get you super low to the ground. Set up and take down is really fast and secure. Some prefer the lever locks on tripods. I have used both and I prefer the twist locks like this - lever locks can loosen over time and if you don't have to tools to tighten them on a shoot you are screwed. The twist locks will ALWAYS tighten. The bag it comes with is ok, but I have ordered a more substantial bag with some padding. The bag that comes with the Corey and Travis are thin and offer no padding.
A good tripod should last a very long time - tripods I have owned lasted decades and still worked fine when I sold them. It is well worth it to invest a little bit in a quality tripod. These Punks series (entry level?) tripods from 3-Legged Thing are of surprisingly high quality for the money.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2022Color: CoreyVerified PurchaseI have been a professional photographer since the late 1989. Underwater, on land, never a great environment for a tripod, like swamps, sand, not easy places to go. UNTIL now, the 3 legged thing is freaking awesome. The designer incorporated so much in to this tripod that I am still discovering and learning. I'm "in love" and I've never even been "in like with a tripod". Clever Clever Clever always components that really work, and are very pramatic. Thank you design team. I shoot Nikon D810 with 300mm 2.8 my heaviest lens. Nikon Z6ii with several lenses. Compact, strong, great portability. I'll update at a later date.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2019Color: CoreyVerified PurchaseSo first off I live mobile and small in a van or out of a backpack and this fits in that lifestyle very well. I can actually strap it to the outside of my Lowpro Taho backpack pretty easily and it fits very easily on our backpacking bags. It is still a bit heavy but I really appreciate a stable platform when I use a tripod, I mean that is the point of a tripod. The company has very attentive customer service that responds promptly. It feels like a high quality piece of gear. Ok so imo the downside as small as it is will be getting used to the twist lock legs and all the ball joints. Yes it is amazing the positions you can get into with this pod but it will take a little bit of time until I practice more to be fast with it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2020Color: CoreyVerified PurchaseThis tripod is very sturdy while being compact and light weight. Easy to travel and hike with.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2019Color: Corey AnarchyVerified PurchaseThis tripod collapses small enough to fit inside of a back pack which makes it nice if you are going to be in an area that is heavily populated. I bought this for my trip to Italy and didn't want something that forced me to strap the trip to the outside of my back back effectively making it obvious that I had 1000's of dollars worth of camera equipment. It worked perfectly, I could store the tripod and a couple lenses in a small camelback backpack and have comfort knowing that it wasn't obvious what I had in the backpack. It is lightweight and has a substantial load capacity (30 lbs) which is a huge bonus for me. For $199, you really can't beat the quality of this mount.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2020Color: CoreyVerified PurchaseFirst impressions are really good. It looks and feels very well made! The head operates smoothly and has its bubble levels clearly visible even with the camera mounted. It's probably a little overkill for my tiny x-t30, but I will likely have this tripod for a long time so I like knowing it will handle heavier kits. I like the thoughtful carabiner clip that doubles as a shoe tightener. I like that you simply have to invert the legs to do macro shooting.
I haven't actually taken it out on a shoot yet, but I'm really looking forward to it because this tripod looks and feels awesome.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2018Color: CoreyVerified PurchaseHey this is a great tripod. Easy to carry, hike with. Strong enough to hold my Panasonic G85 with ease, though it might struggle with larger rigs. Steady base for long exposure shots. There are sturdier tripods, but this is a great travel-pod that is strong enough to get the job done. Pricey, but worth it. Terrific quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will never look back at another brand name for the rest of your life.
Color: CoreyVerified PurchaseIt is very challenging to find a good tripod these days. I have tried many and they don’t last or even age gracefully. This compact tripod is beautifully designed, well built with a great attention to details. It feels sturdy and robust as soon as you handle it. I have never seen a well thought out tripod like this. I am extremely sold on Three Legged Thing as a brand you can trust and will never look back. All I need now is the Clawz :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo
Color: CoreyVerified PurchaseBellissimo, colorato, gommoso, compatto, solido e stabile. Pesa 1,5 kg. L'ho collaudato in molte varie situazioni. Ha resistito a viaggi, calore tropicale, neve, pioggia. Sono sempre tentato da super cavalletti in carbonio ma poi vedo che pesano solo 400 grammi meno di questo e costano almeno il doppio. Me lo tengo stretto!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sturdy and versatile tripod
Color: CoreyVerified PurchaseExcellent little tripod. Extremely sturdy, solid and well-built. Very versatile, allowing a huge range of positions and uses (though not quite as versatile as my beloved Benbo). Do love the "modular" nature where it can be reconfigured as a columnless support or as a monopod (of dual sizes, the smallest monopod almost fitting into a jacket pocket. Excellent ballhead too - a good size for this tripod, with a beautifully smooth action, and zero "droop" (on my admittedly light Nikon Z50). Only minor complaints are the (relatively) heavy weight (though you do reap this in superior stability) and the fact that it's a bit cumbersome to use in low-level mode without the centre column, requiring a lot of unscrewing and fiddling. Oh and why is the ballhead blue? It looks so incongruous against the (attractive) orange. Wish it was grey instead. Oh well, it doesn't affect the functionality. Otherwise, top marks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Le meilleur trépied que j'ai jamais eu
