- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2024This is a great book. I loved it. Answered many of my doubts. And great insights. However the context of book is for Indian families. I'm not sure how much of the issues described in the book is universal. From cover page drawing may be Swamji 's intention is clear. Ofcourse many of the principles described in the book are universal. But some are not.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2023thanks to Om Swami for writing this book. i have all his books, this is maybe the 4th i read so far. i feel like i know him, just through his books, his style of writing is amazing,he himself loves reading so much.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2019I am not sure I am qualified to give anything less than 5 stars for any of swamiji's writings. I do think he is the best orator and probably among the best writers I have seen and I am thankful that I came across his work. By the high standards that swamiji sets this is less than his best, but it still is among the best work you will find on parenting. Swamiji has a way of weaving practical tips and funny stories in his book that is unique. I always love his practical tips. I am not a big fan of his bringing so much material from his blogs (u feel like u have read half the book even before u start), and I also wish the editors brought more of the practical tips he has given in so many of his talks(for example, the sandwich method of delivering u r criticism that he talks about). All in all this is still a wonderful book, even though I was trying to do many of the things that parenting books talked about I wondered why my kids didn't pay attention to me, swamiji's work made.me realize that I wasn't showing joy or gratitude for having them. It is a long road ahead, but reading his work again and again will help get it in to our minds. For more practical tips on parenting I would recommend Adele Faber and Jan mazlish.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2019I have read almost all books from this author and ordered this book the same day it became available on Amazon. I was not surprised by the words in the book as it is nothing but purely insightful (as all other books from the author). I am not a parent but the words of wisdom in this book inspires me to talk about these ideas with other parents and friends. I would certainly recommend reading all books from the author but if you are a son/daughter/parent/grandparent, do read this book and you will not be disappointed. This book is a sheer service to mankind and it is upto us to implement the book's ideas/thoughts for our progeny.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2019Excellent book. I highly recommend this book to all parents. Every chapter is well written with such relavent & day-to-day scenarios that happen in most families. Very relatable on many levels. Swamiji has very clearly narrated both the parents perspective & the kids perspective on the same scenario helping the reader see both sides of the scenario. If only we succeed in implementing the suggestions it will definitely result in a happy home to which the family members would want to return at the end of the day.
The best thing about the book is it is written in such a simple manner, very relatable & very true. Most of all very realistic.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2019Very valuable tips on parenting. I wish I read this book when my kids where infants. Great reminder of do’s and don’t throughout the book with great illustration, examples and study results. Liked the summary at the end of the ten tentative guidelines to keep it handy. I strongly recommend this book to everyone, specially all parents or would-be parents. Thank you Swami ji once again for another fantastic and powerful book.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2019Six years being a mother, scores of book that were read on parenting, workshops that were attended.. million thanks for giving those 10pointers, and the conversation between those kids and yourself Swamiji ,as probably the most practical thing that I missed in the books read. DO NOT LECTURE, PAUSE BEFORE YOU TALK TO YOUR CHILD were my take home messages.
This book of Swamiji’s along with Daniel Siegel hand brain model talks on Tedx and Calmer easier Happier parenting by Noel Janis Norton (practical points on changing set habits) will be my pillars of parenting on foundation of His Highness Grace on me and my family.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2019This book has got me thinking about what I want my children to master...my oldest is 6 years old, and she's been playing piano for over a year, and it's an activity she seems to enjoy. Still searching for my 4 year old boy, he definitely likes to be on the MOVE, so something physical will be up his alley. I realize now that I have to read this book again, and I'm smiling because I love reading Om Swami's books - so this will give me another chance to do so! It's also made me try to appreciate my kids point of view more, to see the work from their point of view, and empathize with them, instead of just forcing my views/rules/punishments or whatever on them.
