Well designed and balanced rubber mallet to be used for pounding items that would be damaged by a metal hammer, such as chrome storage racks, delicate wood surfaces, etc. I read some negative views where users complained that the rubber was destroyed when hammering things like tent pole stakes. Really? You must be quite the city slicker if you think a rubber mallet is appropriate to pound in a metal tent stake—you’re lucky it didn’t bounce back and hit you in the forehead (although that may have knocked some sense into you). Pro Tip: For something like tent stakes, use a ball-peen or sledgehammer. I’m sure Amazon has good prices on both. And if you’re not a Prime member, join—it’s well worth the price.

I had my dead blow hammer of many years, just disintegrate and thought I try this TEKTON 30683 16-Ounce Fiber glass Handle White/Black Rubber Mallet. For the Prime price of $12.58 and free delivery, I thought I'd give it a try. The handle, fiber glass and a rubber grip, will hold up to any use I can imagine, using the rubber work end mallet. It is hefty enough, for about anything I'll ever used it for and I don't ever see it as a waste of money. I like it and I began using it immediately. It feels good in the hand and the ends are a strong rubber that should hold up well. I think I'll use it a while and then return for a follow up of this review, to report how it performed.

This was a great purchase. I needed a rubber mallet for pounding cinder blocks flat into a layer of compacted sand, and this has done the trick. I've also used it on delicate pavers, too, and it hasn't so much as broken a chip off of anything. I would expect the mallet head to look chewed up and worn to pieces after the abuse I've put it through, but it still looks brand new. It's got exactly the right amount of weight, feels good in my hand, and the center of gravity feels like it's in the perfect spot. This thing is pretty heavy, but I haven't felt sore after using it for a few hours at a time. It also does a great job of absorbing the impact, as it doesn't feel like I'm getting any uncomfortable vibration after hitting the cinder blocks or pavers. I'm whacking 'em pretty good, too, so it's impressive that I'm not hurting myself.

At this price, it's a no-brainer if you think a rubber mallet will help you with whatever project you're doing. I have never used a rubber mallet before, and I may not need it again for years, but I feel like this was a great purchase to help with this specific job, and I have absolutely no regrets on picking up a tool that I may not use very often at all. Go for it, dude.
