However the HSLU (Hochschule Luzern) together with Stair arranged a Hackathon and a friend of mine invited me to join, so I accepted. This is a retrospective on that experience. My while looking for potential gift ideas, I’ve got the idea of making a clock (as a Swiss, it just has to be natural to do this). How I would be making the clock though, would be challenging to figure out. Choosing the base for the clock was the first challenge. Obviously I didn’t want to make the entire thing out of plastic. CrypticAnt is an application, that has the goal of making conversions between encoded/encrypted text. It is build around the idea, of working similarly to Google Translate. You can select the data type, and then type in either of the textareas to convert between the two. ZeroTier creates secure networks between on-premise, cloud, desktop, and mobile devices. This is how ZeroTier explains their software, and it is kind a unjust explanation, for such a magical piece of networking magic. I would explain it like this: Zerotier functions as a “virtual LAN” (as an actual virtual network adapter), allowing all my devices (including servers ofc), to communicate with each other. You could compare it with a VPN, but only routing what it needs to, and being P2P.

AntDesign is a project, to make all of my applications fit together. It is focused on round corners, modern color schemes and customizability. Colors Unified Colors are one of the most important aspects of a design. Every color theme consists of a text-color, two background-colors, one primary accent-color, and two secondary accent-colors. Each theme also contains a set of shadows (although they might be customized further, if wished for).

A modern E-Book reader app, written in NodeJS. We created this web-app in a group of three people (although more than 90% of the code is from me), with the main goal being time- and project-management. Our choice to use NodeJS for this wasn’t bad, but the way we ended up using it is more than suboptimal. We pretty much ended up using NodeJS to assemble a HTML page out of “strings” on the server and then send those to the client.

This start page is made to be able to function as a “New Tab” page in your browser (through extensions like Custom New Tab Page). You can customize it any way you want. The app supports dark mode by reacting to your systems setting. First run npm install to install all the dependencies for this project. Edit src/ts/config.json to fit your needs, after that you can compile it with npm run build, or just run it locally (useful for development) with npm run dev.

A while ago (around two months ago), I decided to try out a MacBook. I know that everyone that knows me would scream at me, as I have always been hating Apple for what I do, but I never had any proof for that hate… until now. So when Apple announced the M1 processor, I though I’d give it a go, and tried it as my main PC (I use my Laptop docked as my only PC).

This might not be the coolest ever piece of software, but it certainly can be very useful to have around for when you need it. It creates a “REST”-API, and gives back JSON values that you set before, in order to check on the system remotely (e.g. through a Website/Dashboard). Review: Jitsi

I’ve been using Jitsi for a while now and I can’t say enough good things about it. For everyone that doesn’t know: Jitsi is a (if you want self-hosted) video conference-/call software that’s 100% FOSS. In my experience it has the best quality of any I’ve tried, which resulted in me using it for the last month or so every single day (with about two exceptions :( ). It’s not perfect though, I don’t like the fact that it has a watermark on the default client (which you can remove probably but I haven’t figured out how) but the fact that it’s p2p is AMAZING!

YummyAnt is a simple recipe book that I coded in Javascript. It is installable via a service worker (PWA) but doesn’t work offline because that could end up using too much storage. For the UI (which I’m kinda proud of, because I’m horrible with UI-design) I used MaterialCSS. They’re freaking awesome and the reason this project looks (at least kind of) professional.

We had the issue that we had an old discord server that we wanted to archive, the servers channels where exported with Discord Chat Exporter. Usage here, I’m assuming you already used the Chat Exporter to export HTML-Pages Download script.sh from the repo and copy it into an empty folder.
