La Stockholm cathedral known as Storkyrkan (literally "Great Church") or Sankt Nikolai kyrka ("Church of Saint Nicholas") is the oldest church in the city. The exact year of its construction is unknown, but it already appears for the first time in a source written in 1279. It is found in Gamla Stan, the old quarter of the city.
La Catedral It is built with plastered brick, and its walls are painted yellow with white details. Its original style corresponds to the Gothic of the XIII century; however, the exterior was remodeled in a Baroque style around 1740 by the architect Johan Eberhard Carlberg.
From 1527, the Catedral it has been a Lutheran church. It became a cathedral when the Diocese of Stockholm was created in 1942.
Inside there is a wooden image of Saint George and the Dragon, which is believed to date from the XNUMXth century. Then there is the Vädersoltavlan painting, the oldest in the city of Stockholm.
El schedules May to September is from 09:00 to 18:00. The entrance price during this season is 40 crowns (4 euros) for adults and free entry for children under 18. From October to April the hours are from 09:00 to 16:00. Entry during these months is free. During the summer (June to August), tours are included in the price, and are free the rest of the year.
To get to the Catedral you can take buses 2, 43, 46, 55, 59 or 76 to the bus stop Gamla Stan. Or take the red line (T13 and T14) and the green line (T17, T18 and T19) of the metro.
