‘Breakout’ is the third single from ‘End Codes’, the second album from Dan Carney aka Astronauts.
It’s a bustling, pulsing, exhilarating thing. Tumbling beats, bleeps, and creaky acoustics underpin Dan’s trademark soaring vocal harmonies, simultaneously lilting and relentless, reassuring and accusatory, sunny and dark.
It comes backed by two remixes. Firstly, Rich Thair from UK jazz/electronic legends Red Snapper exhilaratingly splices the vocal and lilting melodies of the original with layer upon layer of shuffling, rolling breaks. Then we’ve got electronic protégé Pesky Youth, just sixteen years old, whose intricate, abstract reworking of ‘End Codes’ track ‘Hider’ massively belies his tender years.
