She has the courage to maintain her opinion in the face of daunting opposition; She makes so many very good choices; She refuses to be entirely and altogether a 'helpless female'. And she is not as partisan (although there is some of that) toward biological family as some are.
It is true that the bro in law never gets in trouble for what we might think he should get in trouble for. His character never changes, his wife simply never finds out, and he concedes defeat in the reality of Jasper's victory. So we are left to try and believe (or not) that perhaps he is not swindling others. I suppose one can hope. But of course, forgiveness doesn't always mean someone gets away with bad things, either. In life, it can go either way. A time to demand some form of consequence, and other times to let things go. Either way, there will be someone who will disagree with the approach, but hopefully it will have been one sought out by Heaven, not mere prejudice or because we like someone or are related.
As Christians, we ought forgive (which doesn't mean approve) even the unrepentant ) so perhaps it should not stick in the craw too much that the man doesn't get his comeuppance.
The story is an excellent example that sometimes we ought to correct what people think of us, for the good we can do. Sometimes, for the harm we can prevent.
And that sometimes, we need to reach the point of insisting we be allowed to love.
And I love it that although Jasper Holt has experience with her being one tough cookie, he always treats her as gently and delicately as he possibly can. In all their vulnerability, it is a story about two people tough as nails, and with steadfast integrity.
