The French songs, harmonised by J.B. Weckerlin and illustrated by Boutet de Monvel, are taken from two collections, "Chansons de France pour les petits Francʹais," and "Vieilles chansons et danses pour les petits enfants," published by Plon, Nourrit & cie, Paris. "The Russian songs with their original harmonies and illustrations are from a popular children's book [in Cyrillic] published in Moscow." The Belgian songs, obtained "chiefly from the mouths of those who have been driven from their land by ... the war ... have been harmonised by Miss Lucy Broadwood, and illustrated by M. Alfred Bastien."--Preface
