Miter

At Miter I operated as a solo design engineer, redesigning and re-implementing large swaths of the Miter dashboard.

I primarily collaborated with the CEO, product managers, and other engineers who provided design feedback and code review.

Redesign

The process began with a new visual language aligned with the redesigned brand that the agency Together executed. I started with new colors, type, and iconography.

I incrementally updated the entire dashboard, including 100+ pages and 40+ components, while running both the old and new UI in parallel behind a theming system. This allowed internal users to dog food the new UI as it came up while existing customers were not even aware of the redesign.

I consolidated repetitive code and began the process of migrating broken and ineffective UX.

We gradually rolled out the redesign to customers and collected feedback along the way. The responses were overwhelmingly positive, with 80% of customers preferring the new look.

Before I joined, Miter had four overlapping form field libraries. I started by restyling them all for consistency, and then began incrementally consolidated them down.

Design system

As part of the design I introduced a new design system that included components based on Radix UI & storybook serving 20+ engineers, and an accompanying Figma library.

Consolidated settings

After the redesign I self-initiated several projects, the first of which was consolidated settings.

Previously every page in the app had its own individual settings page and there wasn’t a single consolidated view of all the settings. This became more problematic as settings from disparate pages overlapped or conflicted with each other.

The unified settings page had a search feature where, after clicking an item, the system would automatically navigate to that individual page and then scroll down and visually highlight that setting.

Promotions

Over time the team had developed multiple ways of communicating external information, such as downtime, new features, and upcoming webinars.

I consolidated all of these and connected them to a Sanity headless CMS so that engineering wasn’t required to update the content. The most prominent example is a promotional space on the sign in page where the marketing team could post images, text and an external link.

Animated loader

I hand animated a looping loading animation based on the graphics Together created for the marketing website and materials.
