August 2, 1876, Wild Bill Hickok was playing poker in Deadwood, Dakota. Hickok usually sat with his back to a wall. The only seat available when he joined the poker game was a chair that put his back to a door. Jack McCall, entered the saloon unnoticed by Hickok. Walked to within a few feet of Hickok, and shouted, "Damn you! Take that!" before firing at Hickok point blank. Hickok was holding a pair of aces and a pair of eights when he died. The fifth card's identity is the subject of debate.
