Shadows are one of the most important aspects of a painting in my opinion. And the most fun! (Maybe that’s just me…) here are two main types of shadow that will elevate your painting - cast shadows and form shadows. Let’s review them both, shall we?

Here, I am sharing some of the main light and shadow terms for you-  1. Highlight- white most section where light is falling.  This can be created by using tint of the local color.  2. Cast Shadow- shadow created on the surface because of light falling on the object.   3. Crevasse shadow- darkest section of the shadow on object where no light has fallen.   4. Bedbug line- imaginary line after which shadows appears.   5. Reflective lights- light falling on the object from the surface side.  6. Halftone- This could be light, average or dark areas of soft light.
