Installing Beadboard Wallpaper

7.5K views · 1.2K reactions | Let’s talk about wall panelling 🤗 without a doubt my favourite kind of DIY project! So far we’ve tried shaker style, decorative moulding, beadboard and a faux effect using wallpaper! Just love the variety across each style and the interest it adds to a plain wall 😍 That said, each method has pros and cons… Shaker style panelling - great that different thicknesses of MDF can be used. We have skirting board with a thin profile so used 6mm to avoid it sitting proud. I found that it takes longer to do the maths than to actually cut and install the panels 😅. It’s also the method that needs the most filling, sanding, caulking and priming! Pine (or MDF) moulding panels - think this is also called wainscoting? There are so many options here between different moulding profiles and panel layouts 🙌 It can be a bit fiddly with cutting the angles so a mitre tool goes a long way. There will probably be some caulking required with this method. Depending on the thickness of the moulding, there’s also the option to make the panels first then attach to the wall but I haven’t tried this yet. Beadboard panels - most of the hard work has been done for you, especially if you use primed boards! Great for covering larger spaces quickly. We’ve used them to create panelled backboards for alcove shelving. Easier to install if you have a nailgun 👌 and will probably need some caulk to conceal vertical joins and around the edges. Painting into the grooves can take a while - I’ve found that you need a brush vs a roller. Panelled effect wallpaper - I was dubious about this but wow, the embossed detail is so good!! A cost effective way to get a panelled look that can be easily painted once the wallpaper paste has dried. Wallpapering tools and skills required of course 👍. I used this inside an ikea Havsta upcycle project but am considering using it around a whole room as a half height wall panelled effect ✨.
