40K views · 11K reactions | As we approach autumn and the sun casts less and less light on our corner of the world, creating lanterns and luminaries has become a lovely tradition for our little family to welcome in the darker seasons. You can either reuse a balloon like I did here, or you can simply use a piece of recycled plastic bag/packaging over a bowl for a similar effect. I also used my favorite clear glue recipe (in my previous reel) for this and it worked PERFECTLY. It also allows for it to be completely compostable 🙌 in case you didn’t know, mod podge is not biodegradable. I love being able to make nature crafts that can be returned to nature. I’m far from perfect, but if I’m going to take the time to create crafts I want to be as sustainable about it as possible. You’ll want to start with a partially inflated balloon that’s twisted and clipped or tied with a string. Or you can lay a piece of reused plastic over a nice round bowl. Layer the clear glue I’ve shared about and pieces of recycled tissue paper. Do this a few times until there are a few layers. Then paste on your pressed florals, finishing with another layer of glue. You may need to do this twice to make sure they don’t lift. Hang and allow to dry until completely hard, or if using a bowl, let sit for at least 24-48 hours. Then slowly deflate the ballon or carefully lift off of bowl. Punch holes on two opposite sides and tie a string through each to form a handle. It’s that simple!
