The drone hum swells. For a moment it seems she will remain silent. Then—so faint it might be mistaken for static—she whispers. "Roots remember what walls forget." The drone beam cuts sharper, drowning her voice. The Controller speaks. The Children hesitate. She kneels again, pressing her soil into the floor as though planting seeds in rubble. Her whisper lingers, carried by the bass, an afterimage in sound that will only resurface years later when she is revealed as the Gardener.
