The Nine Year War The Nine Year War
"Speak ye not of the church nor of Rome,
Show me not the light that you follow.
Poison me not with your biblical tome,
Your teachings are empty and hollow."
Touché!

Alas yet the disease would spread for hundreds and hundreds of years, child abuse, dogma's and corruption would follow, not only in Eireann but also in my own country.

Blood On The Black Robe is without any doubt the most aggressive and brutal album by Cruachan!

9/10
3. The Living and The Dead
by Cruachan
The Crow The Crow
Cruachan knows how to surprise the listener with each new release.

imho TLATD is the second best album after Blood For The Blood God.

9/10

P.S.:
The artwork is genius!
4. The Cult of Kariba
by Carach Angren
Venomous 1666 Venomous 1666
Finally.....a vital (or must I say deadly) sign of Carach Angren from Landgraaaaaaavvvvvveeee.....ûmmmmm....Landgraaf.

imho Lammendam and Death Came Through a Phantom Ship are their best until now but this EP is a sign of a great future!

9/10

P.S.:
Vergis ik me wanneer ik tot de conclusie kom dat de tekst van Ik Kom Uit Het Graf losjes gebaseerd is op de jarenzeventigklassieker Buried Alive met Tim Matheson als Clint?
5. World-without-us ("Exercises in futility" unreleased song)
by Mgła
6. Nine Years of Blood
by Cruachan
Cath Na Brioscai Cath Na Brioscai
Most Cruachan fans consider this album as their best;

Although my personal favorite is the predecessor 'Blood For The Blood God' I must admit that after more than one listen I can imagine the public preference for this opus;

It's advanced, folky and also grim.

8/10
7. Blood for the Blood God
by Cruachan
Beren and Luthien Beren and Luthien
A mixture of folk with traditional Celtic instruments and black metal with heavy guitars.

The lyrics are mostly based on the violent Irish history, culture and the hypocrisy of the church.

Beren and Lúthien is based on a fairy tale by J.R.R.Tolkien and my second personal favorite The Sea Queen Of Connaught handles about a female pirate, not taken seriously by her father but who proves herself as a real hero.

Simply genius, 10/10
8. Black Rose Immortal
by Opeth
9. Blackbraid III
by Blackbraid
10. Wardrums at Dawn on the Day of my Death
by Blackbraid
If the rest of the upcoming album has the same level of songwriting and performance as 'Wardrums...' Blackbraid III will be top V stuff at least.
11. Dienerin
by OBSIDIAN CHAMBER
Another great track by those gifted Austrians.

The sexually loaded (sic) lyrics made me think of Queen's 'Get Down Make Love' (quote: ".....you say I'm hungry, I give you meat....."

Quote from 'Dienerin':
".....Beachte mich, betrrrrachte mich
hab ein Stück prrrrachtvoll Fleisch für dich....."

With Markus Schlögel it sounds like a certain Till Lindemann is the vocalist of Obsidian Chamber🤘
12. Perverting the Nazarene Cult - Concilium II
by Aguynguerran
Assyria (C. II) Assyria (C. II)
Back in my late teenage years, in 1986 Target was born from the womb of Belgium and I was impressed.

In 1988 Ancient Rites saw the light of life from that same country and I was impressed again.

In 1999 Aguynguerran was founded and I didn't notice;

At first 26(!) years later I discovered this band from Belgium thanx to a remix of Perverting The Nazarene Cult, published by Black Metal Promotion on YouTube and....I was blown away!
13. Absolute Elsewhere
by Blood Incantation
The Message [Tablet III] The Message [Tablet III]
To me it sounds like a perfect blend of Death (RIP Chuck), Pink Floyd and, yes indeed, Morbid Angel during the Blessed Are The Sick era.
9,5/10
14. Under a Sky Full of Thunder
by Svar
Downfall Downfall
Thanx to Black Metal Promotion on YouTube I discovered Svar.
Another great band from Poland, the Central-European blackmetalcounterpart of Norway.
Looking forward to In The Land Called Night🤘🎸🤘
15. Antidotum na życie
by Gniew
16. Still Life (Remastered)
by Opeth
White Cluster (Remastered) White Cluster (Remastered)
It's just a classic, nothing more nothing less; imho even Opeth's very best until now.
I'm glad Mikael Åkerfeldt is turning back to grunting combined with clean singing instead of only clean vocals
17. Son of Stone
by Mithras Crowned
Together with The Horrors Of Fate, this track belongs on Hymns Of The Hierophant, in my very humble opinion. Mithras Crowned proves that metal doesn't have to descend from Europe or Northern America to be eargastic.....
18. The Horrors of Fate
by Mithras Crowned
Hmmm....am I the only one?!
19. Hymns of the Hierophant
by Mithras Crowned
Non Serviam Non Serviam
Those South-Africans know how to produce fabulous "rock 'n roll"!
No matter if you call it black metal, death metal or blackened death metal; it's just great ear candy🤟👑🤟
20. La France des Maudits
by Seth
Le Vin du Condamné Le Vin du Condamné
When it comes to very black metal, I would never associate it with Bordeaux; rather with Reykjavik, Helsinki, Sint Petersburg, Krakau and of course good ol' Bergen but not with the sunny wine capital of France.
Well, thanx to Aardschok recensent Wouter Dielesen I discovered this band from Bordeaux, of all places in the world. This perfectly well-played melodic but bloody dark stuff breathes total despair and also my compliments for the vocalist; quality all around. 9/10
