It's impossible to describe in such few characters how much John's work means to me. But suffice it to say, nearly every song makes me emotional.

This right here is why I have trained the YouTube algorithm to recommend me random songs with hardly any views. This album slaps from start to finish, with lyrics that I feel deep in my soul. Such a shame that so few people have heard it.
  4. Hold Music
    by Vivat Virtute
I was a bit skeptical that an instrumental album was a good way for two of the best lyricists alive to spend their time, but this album is so good you guys. Every week, I meditate as the album plays. It puts me right back in preschool nap time -- I feel safe and whole. I'm writing this less than a week into Trump's second administration, and this album makes it all feel manageable, which given the circumstances is quite a feat.
  5. Heart Like a River
    by Ida
    Sundown Sundown
    Achingly beautiful.
  6. Attention Deficit Spending

When I scour the obscure corners of Bandcamp and YouTube looking for unknown musicians, this is the sort of thing I'm always hoping to find but almost never do. It's something that a major label would never, ever release, amateur in all of the good ways and none of the bad ones. This person clearly knows what they're doing in playing, arranging, and recording the music, and while the lyrics may seem blunt, there's more and more depth to be found the more your reflect on them. Good shit!

After all these years, John still has it.
