Soca, short for “soul of Calypso”, emerged in the late 70’s. I bought a bootleg cassette of Soca music in St Lucia in 1983. Here on Bandcamp now is one of my favourites from that Cassette, and I am very happy to pay for the legit download. The storytelling and social commentary of Calypso is pure music joy. If you are old enough to remember the Michael Fagan break-in to Buckingham Palace back in 1982, then enjoy my favourite picked track from The Mighty Sparrow.

This demo has been out a while, . excuse me whilst I catch up. Cat Redfern’s the star. When I heard her solo album All Allusions, I knew what drew me to her voice. Now hearing this collaborative demo I’ll make the analogy. Go back to 1971, Anna Meak and Caterpillar. Few will have heard that epic self-title album. Original; vinyl copies of that album can sell for silly money these days. Be inspired. I may be a couple of generations short of today’s hip (cool), but what went around comes around!
