For me, as an atheist of 50 years standing, I find Michael McGlynn's music compelling as an expression of human thought. It takes the very human drive, compulsion really, to understand the universe and our place in it in a way that is at once approachable and intrinsically mysterious. It is in that seeming contradiction that the composer delves for inspiration.
