  1. After EP 2
    by After
    The Field The Field
After is going to be gigantic. Mark my words.

They continue to just smash every single song they conjure straight out of this universe.

I don't think anybody has come anywhere close to touching this specific blend of Y2K Pop-Rocks and Frutiger Aero.

"Where we are now" is probably one of the best tracks I've ever heard in my life.

Saw them in Toronto live and Justine and Graham are exceptional on stage.
  2. After EP
    by After
    300 dreams 300 dreams
Frutiger-Aero-Era Pop Rocks distilled into it's very essence and re-bottled for your sweet enjoyment as a modern release that is influenced by just the perfect amount of traditional headphone and hyperpop music influences. Justine has the voice of an angel and 300 Dreams would have definitely been on a billboard hit compilation CD my mom purchased at costco in the early 00's that I listened to in my bedroom on my hand-me-down multi-cd stereo.
  3. Phantom Island
by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
    Deadstick Deadstick
Don't make me pick a favourite - Phantom Island is undoubtedly my favourite KG&TLW project to date.

The album is fun, poppy, exciting, and shimmering from beginning to end. No other Gizz album has struck a chord with me as instantaneously as this one.

Highlights for me are for sure Deadstick - with it's driving, almost gospel-esque highs - and Eternal Return with it's emotionally honest lyrics about growing old and living with your decisions.

The orchestra adds so much here. <3
  4. 867
    by This Is The Glasshouse
    Robinson Robinson
Haunting, gorgeous, hopeful, and all things in between. 867 is a masterful record that, after reading the description - I can confidently say that the work, blood, sweat, tears, and singular very important subway sandwhiches that all went into this record were worth it. This record is quite unlike anything else I've ever heard. Fantastic, fantastic stuff. Would be worth a 41 hour drive across the north american continent to catch it live.
  5. Equus Caballus
    by Men I Trust
    Carried Away Carried Away
The percussive hits that come in during the track "Carried Away" after "wouldn't cross your mind, to care for" send me into a state of ethereal bliss.
  6. Flight b741
by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
    Le Risque Le Risque
You can really feel where "Phantom Island" gets a lot of it's sensibilities from when you listen to this one and that one back-to-back.

Le Risque is a track that you just have to blast out as loud as you can every time it comes on.

    HELLLOOOOOOOO EVIL KNIEVAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. infrequent flyers program
    by defsharp
    glass fort glass fort
Three years in, and this album remains an all-time favorite of mine.

Defsharp has a really special and unique musical style that blends so many different styles into this super unique pop approach that is begging to be listened to front-to-back each and every time.

The explosive hooks in songs like "Common Courtesy" and "Glass Fort" leave a signature impression.

This record deserves a world tour and a vinyl release. 10/10 stuff.
  8. Anyway
    by Anamanaguchi
    Sapphire Sapphire
Heavily noisy, dirty, and ambitious - quite a departure from their previous records - but Anamanaguchi all the same. This is some truly high energy music that has super anthemy lyrics that are sure to excite for decades to come. An almost romantic basement-punk type aesthetic with soaring excitement. Very nice to hear chiptune synths in behind it all!

'Cause nothing comes out of nowhere!!
  9. A Million Different Ways
    by Tony Anderson
    Fleurie Fleurie
(Mostly) Solo Piano selections that are viscerally beautiful and melancholy. May be a weird thing to say but many of these would be right at home in Minecraft. Really love these a lot. Excited to listen to the full record that this is a prelude for!
  10. Outbound
    by After
Everything that After does is so peak. They deserve global stardom.

Thank you so much for making music!!

This song is especially emotional and feels like this really beautiful extension of songs like "Obvious" with the production sense of "Deep Diving"

Also - seeing this is out via Mom+Pop is huge!!
  11. Minecraft: Askew
    by Krzysztof Pikes
    WHAT REMAINS WHAT REMAINS
I definitely do not have the character length available on Bandcamp to discuss how impressive this project is. Krzystof has put gargantuan effort and purpose into this work, and it shines through.

Their version of Minecraft is a lot more upbeat and exciting than C418's, but the music's callbacks, both subtle and obvious, really keep you grounded. It's just familiar enough to feel like home, even if it is vastly different.

    Fantastic, fantastic work here.
  12. Omnium Gatherum
by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
The Dripping Tap The Dripping Tap
Despite it's lengthy track length; The Dripping Tap is a returning favourite of mine.

This record I'm somewhat at odds with; I will admit that I'm not a huge fan of the more metal-y tracks on this one and I wish it leaned with more dedication into the type of vibes that "Sadie Sorceress" and "Ambergris" give off. The metal feels out of place here.

That being said - a very cool record. Definitely worth a listen from anyone who likes metal, beastie boys, with the refreshing aftertaste of hip hop
  13. The Story
    by After
It's kind of a shame this one wasn't included in the "After EP" because this one fits with the vibe SO well; and it needs as much as attention as it can get! Just as blown away by this single as I am by the rest of the "After EP"
  14. Deep Diving
    by After
The culmination and solidification of every "Frutiger Aero-wave" track you've heard into a bubbly, floating, and dream-like waterscape. Stunning sound design as always from After; and Justine's voice continues to shine bright as a pearl in the ocean water.
  15. Learn To Swim (w/ 星宮とと)
    by Doda, Static, 星宮とと
I sort of came to the realization this past couple months that Hoshimiya Toto has been a mainstay vocalist in my life for many years now, probably coming up on five.

So I decided to check out some more recent stuff they've been involved with and I sure am glad I did! The proudction on this track by Doda and Static are super fun and compliment Hoshimiya so well.

    Sound of the summer.
  16. flowers for you [s-smp]

    our time our time
Why did I never buy this on Bandcamp? what the heck is wrong with me?

This is one of the best projects I've ever heard in my life and Bo En assembling the "dream team" of Japanese indie and hyperpop talent (AND TOBY FOX!?) for this was next level.

Insanely amazing music here and just holy crud. WOW!!!

This one is an all-timer without question.
  18. THE GREAT DESPAIR
    by On-lyne
When I first got tickets for On-Lyne live in Hollvania 1999, I was like, whoa! and then my friend told me the theatre had been taken over by techrot, and I was a bit apprehensive, but very glad I still went. Great memories of this song. The lighting from the weird techrot glow added a lot to this songs performance. Miss you, On-Lyne! Come back to Hollvania!
  19. Feel Me
    by scythe
    クラウドライン クラウドライン
This record has me thinking that I should start trying to dig up old visual novel music.

Scythe has a special sound and composition technique about their stuff that really shows its signature stylings and licks here, too even though this is less overtly jpop than their previous works.

Happy to finally own a couple Scythe records!
  20. webcore friends
    by Zhnoi
its just that simple (ft. enable secret) its just that simple (ft. enable secret)
Memories of internet musical acts long past, and new ones who are innovating have their musical ideas collide with Webcore Friends. It feels like something I'd dig up on an old hard drive from my early teenage years in my basement, while also being very smart with its modern production. This record is tons of fun!
