Centre Step Card

Today felt like a step card kind of day, so a step card is what I created.

Tutorial - Extended Faux Step-Fold Card

This faux step-fold card gives you the same look as a centre step card but without all the measuring, cutting and folding. Easily made from a single sheet of cardstock (A4 or letter), and can be decorated with offcuts of your favourite patterned paper.

1. Trim the base card to 41/2" x 11" and the centre panel to 3" x 8". (It's not too difficult to alter the size of this card once you understand how it fits together.)

2. Place the base card horizontally on your score board and score at 41/2", 9" and 10". Fold, concertina style, along the scored lines.

3. Place the centre panel horizontally on your score board and score at 21/2". Fold along the score line pressing the crease firmly with your bone folder.

4. I prefer to decorate the pieces before assembly, but feel free to assemble the card first if you prefer. You'll need four pieces of patterned paper to decorate: 23/4" x 51/4" for the centre panel, two pieces measuring 3/4" x 41/4" for either side of the centre panel, and one piece measuring 3/4" x 41/4" for the bottom. (All paper will be vertical in orientation except for the bottom piece.)
NOTE: I also placed a piece of pink ribbon around the bottom of my centre panel before assembly.

5. Secure the centre panel to the middle of the bottom section of the base card. The adhesive should only be applied to the section before the first fold.

6. Fold the card flat and flip it over.

7. Apply adhesive to the back of the centre panel to secure it to the base card. Be mindful of where you place the glue as the centre panel is higher than the base card.

8. Now add whatever additional embellishments you'd like to complete your card.

Tutorial - Centre Step Cards

My good friend Penny taught me how to make these wonderful centre step cards that stand up beautifully for display.  You can make these cards in lots of different shapes and sizes by altering the measurements and fold placements, but I'm going to show you using the same measurements that Penny showed me.

1. Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 12" x 6".  Using the template (above) measure and mark your folding and cutting lines.

2. Use a craft knife or a trimmer to cut along the cut lines.  Score along each of the fold lines.

3. Use the fold guide to fold along all the score lines you made earlier.

4.  All that's left now is the embellishing!  I adhered my main image on the centre panel then added some co-ordinating patterned paper on the two side panels and across the bottom.  Some strips of punched white card, a few adhesive pearls and a sentiment stamp finished it all off.

May Challenge

May is the month for celebrating everything about having or being a Mother.  The challenge is to create a card or project using any one of my flower images and embellishing it with your mother's favourite colours.  The card can be for any occasion and can feature any sentiment you wish, not just Mother's Day.
At the end of the month a random winner will be chosen to receive three images of their choice from my online store.  I will also select a Guest Designer for the month of June from amongst those who enter the challenge.  So come join the fun!
