Beleza Abstracta's debut EP, “A Viajante”, is set for release on October 4th, same day of Aphex Twin’s reissue of Selected Ambient Works Vol. II. This project by Filipa Abecasis was born in 2022 after a roadtrip to Cornwall, where Richard D. James grew up. The trip marked the beginning of her self-taught musical journey, driven by the will to discover “where the sound of the creator of Rhubarb originated". With 41 songs composed to date, two of which were featured in the soundtrack for a play in Barcelona in 2023, Beleza Abstracta has developed a distinctivesonic identity she dubs “Highway Techno” – the perfect soundtrack for long car rides.

Beleza Abstracta is a project that defies convention, drawing influence from the experimental styles of Aphex Twin, Yann Tiersen, and Charly Garcia. It weaves seamlessly between classical and electronic music, creating an intricate blend of atmospheric and syncopated sounds. Her compositions guide the listener through a soundscape of ethereal melodies and textured layers, fostering moments of introspection.

In “A Viajante”, she refines this nostalgic, hypnotic style, incorporating field recordings captured in the height of the Pyrenees mountains. The EP invites the listener to explore idyllic landscapes filled with the sounds of flowing streams, waterfalls, church bells, chanting monks, crickets, and cicadas. At times, it feels like you’re walking through a forest or
surrounded by the laughter of children. The EP’s four tracks - Párodo, Episódio, Estásimo, and Êxodo – follow a narrative arch, echoing the structure of a classical Greek tragedy.

This is more than just a musical experience; it’s an artistic exploration that challenges traditional concepts of beauty. The EP’s cover art complements this vision perfectly, featuring a surrealist photo montage from that very trip. On her 41st birthday, 41 songs now under her belt, Filipa Abecasis proves it’s never too late to start something new - and that coincidences don’t exist.
