Jane Inspired Tag!

 Hello, Lyneen here with my first design team post.  I fell in love with the two Words by Jane stamp plates, inspired by the works of Jane Austen. My plan for this and my next few posts is to do a series of Jane projects!

Today I have a Jane Austen inspired tag.

Purple Artist Trading Coins

Hello all you Blank Page Muse fans. Cathy here with 3 more Artist Trading Coins. 

Don't know why I made 3 at a time but I do.They are just so fun to make!

 Can you believe tomorrow is the last day of August? 

Summer just went too fast for me!

Stamps Used:
Chicken mesh by Pam Bray
Corrugated heart by Pam Bray
Whimsical flower by Pam Bray
Art word by Pam Bray
Octopus with top hat from Octopus Time sheet
Faded page text by Terri Sproul
Artist Trading Coin back

Other Supplies:
100LB cardstock
Circle die
Black ink
Distress Oxide
Distress ink
Glue
Heat gun
White embossing power
Wiggle eyes
White cardstock
Copic Marker

Frist make the center of the Artist Trading Coin. Cut 2 circles from the 100LB cardstock. Glue the 2 circles together.

 Then take some purple colors of Distress Oxide and smooch them on the craft sheet. Then drag 3 different circles through it. Dry with heat gun or set aside to air dry.

 Start by stamping text with some Distress ink randomly on the background. Use the same color ink as the Distress Oxide so it blends into the background.
Next stamp chicken mesh randomly in black ink.

 Stamp flower on white cardstock and color center with Copic markers. Cut out and add to center of Coin. Edge Coin with black ink. Glue to one of the centers you made earlier.

 This one stamp the octopus with a top hat in the center with black ink. Glue it to one of the centers you made earlier.

Then you glue wiggle eyes to the octopus and edge with black ink. It is always fun to add some wiggle eyes.

 Last one. Stamp the text on the background with the Distress ink. Then stamp the heart in black ink in the center.

Then grab the ART word stamp and stamp and emboss in the middle of the heart. Edge with black ink. Glue it to the last center you cut out.

Last stamp the Artist Trading Coin back on pattern paper for all 3. Cut out and glue to all the 3 backs of Coins.

Dressed in Feathers.....

Hi Everyone!

Today's post uses a couple of single stamps available in the Sin City Stamps Store!!
Hope you like getting messy while you create because we are doing some painting and heat embossing for these arty tags!

Supplies:

• Sin City Stamp: Dressy Lady with Feathers Art
• Sin City Stamp: Dare to be Different Word Phrase
• Packaging Tags
• Acrylic Paints
• Sponge
• Old Book Pages
• Printed Tissue Papers
• Matte Medium
• Heat Gun
• Embossing Powders & Embossing Ink Pad
• Embellishments ie. feathers, fibers, 3d stickers, braid, flowers, ephemera etc.
• General supplies ie. scissors, spatula, glue, hole punch

Instructions:
Let's start on the tags first.
Tear your old book pages into pieces/strips. Then using the matt medium,  adhere the book pages randomly over the tags. (I've kept the tags all attached in the row of 4 to start with to make it easier to cover and paint).
Add some strips of patterned tissue paper as well. (I had some really cool "shoe" themed black and white tissue paper which came in a box wrapped around a new pair of shoes - what a bonus!!!)
Allow the matt medium to dry completely.

Next step is to add some paint. You can use any colors you like.
For these tags, shades of purple and white acrylic paints have been used.
Using a sponge, or even a makeup sponge works really well, apply the paint randomly to cover all the "blank" spots on the tags as well as the book page strips and tissue paper.

Once the paint is dry, trim any excess overhang of papers and cut the set of 4 tags in half ie. 2 tags each and these will be our "base" tags for our stamped images.
To break up the paint co lour you can add some printed tissue paper over the top of the paint . This adds  an extra layer of texture and interest.
Set aside to dry once again!

Now to work on our stamped images.
Stamp the Dressy Lady and Word Phrase onto paper or card or even as shown here on old book pages.
To match the tag background, try using your embossing pad and sprinkle with colored embossing powder. I've embossed one image/phrase with purple to match the tags and one image/phrase with a co-coordinating green color for a different look!
Heat emboss, but be careful not to burn your fingers!
Cut out the Dressy Lady and cut around the phrase.
You can also use words from old book pages.
 I love the look of the stamped images on the book pages because the paper has that "old" look and is not as stark as using white paper - use cream paper as an alternative to keep the tags looking really vintage style!

Lastly we need to add our stamped images and embellishments to the tags!
Glue everything in place and thread the fibers into the holes at the top of the tags.

Repurposing rubber stamp text

The rubber stamp sets from Sin City Stamps are a really great deal, even if you don’t plan to use every stamp on the sheet.  And here's a way to use some of those phrases that aren’t quite right for your current projects.  I made these pendants using only single words from phrases in Sin City stamp sets.

 

If you want to use part of a phrase, you have several options.  You can stamp the image and cut away the part you don’t want.  You can mask the part you don’t want.  Or, if you are using unmounted stamps, you can cut out the part you want to use and stamp only that part!  And you can still use the whole phrase later.

I wanted to embed words in resin in the bowls of some brass spoons.  Some were part of longer phrases, so I just cut out the part I wanted from each.  Then I adhered them to an acrylic block with double-sided tape and stamped them with ColorBox Chalk Ink onto scrapbook paper.

 

“Believe” comes from the Angel of Time set.  I took “love” from the Dress Forms set and the Wings of Love set.  And “passionate” comes from the Rosette Hearts set.

I cut the words out and dabbed the edges of the rectangles with Chalk Ink.  Then I coated the front, back and edges with Mod Podge.  This seals the paper so the resin doesn’t soak through, leaving the paper opaque.

I prepared the spoons, adding patina, waxing and burnishing them, and punching holes for jump rings.  I cut the large ones in half and turned part of the stem into a bail for hanging.

Then I mixed ICE Resin according to the package directions.  This is a wonderful product!  You mix the two liquid components and they cure into a clear, permanent solid.  If you have been wanting to try resin but have been hesitating, I recommend you take the plunge! 

I floated the slips of paper in the resin.  I added some sead beads to one spoon.

To make sure the resin was level, I rolled up some aluminum foil and set the spoons on it.

Then I just let the resin cure!

These spoons are now pendants, and some of them have already gone to new homes!  And I was able to use stamps I thought might never be used!
