It's Bearly Autumn!

Hi, friends!

It's design team member Walter back on the blog today.  My last post on Halloween got me thinking that I'm ready for some Fall weather.  It's my favorite time of year!  The crisp, cool air.  The smell of falling leaves.  Pumpkin everything!  With that in mind, I created this card to feel a little bit of Fall in the summer.

Here's what I used to make it:

  • Autumn Leaf Costume Bear Rick St Dennis Line Art Rubber Stamp
  • A2 Kraft Card Stock card base
  • 3.75"x5" Brushed Copper card panel
  • 3.25"x4.5" White card panel
  • Deckle edge oval die
  • Tim Holtz Tea Stain Distress Ink
  • Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink
  • Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink
  • Brutus Monroe Ice Grey Vintage Mist Spray
  • Brutus Monroe Brown Vintage Mist Spray
  • Brutus Monroe Mint Chroma Mist Spray
  • Brutus Monroe Apricot Chroma Mist Spray
  • Alcohol markers and Metallic Gel pens
Here's how I made it:
  • Rubbed the Kraft card base with Vintage Photo Distress ink pad along the front edges of the card; rub Tea Stain Distress ink pad along the side edges of the card base.

  • Used the deckle edge oval die to cut out the center of the Brushed Copper card panel.

  • Stamped bear image and colored it with alcohol markers and color leaves with metallic gel pens.

  • Use an ink blending brush to add a light covering of Antique Linen Distress ink.

  • Use a piece of scrap paper to cover the image of the bear.
  • Take the Brutus Monroe Mint and Apricot Chroma Mist sprays, remove sprayer, and gently tap the end with the plastic tube over the card panel to add splatters.  Repeat with the Brown Vintage Spray Mist.

  • Remove scrap paper and spray image with Ice Grey Vintage Mist.
  • Once dry, use craft glue to adhere the brushed copper panel over the stamped image panel.
  • Use craft glue to adhere the combined panel to the card base.
  • Cut a sentiment strip from scrap white card stock, run Antique Linen Distress ink pad over it.
  • Used a black marker to write sentiment, put craft glue on the back of it, and adhered it to card.
This is such a cute card with a vintage feel to it.  I can almost taste the pumpkin bread!

A Sequined Background

 Hi, friends!

I hope that everyone is having a great summer!  Mine has been great so far.  I've been able to enjoy some time off while also keeping up with my crafting time.  Speaking of summer, today's card is a celebration of it featuring another one of the Rick St. Dennis bear stamps.  Who doesn't love spending some time at the beach?  A little fun in the sun is good for the soul - even if you're a bear!  My inspiration for the card was a picture of the bear on the beach being given to say hello to a friend.  What sets this card apart from others is that the card panel background is completely made up of sequins.  It was the first time that I've tried this and I am really happy with the results.  What do you think?

Here's what I used to create it:

 Here's how I made it:

  • Adhered turquoise card panel to card base with double sided tape and stamped the sentiment at the top.
  • Stamped the bear onto the smaller white card panel and colored it with alcohol markers, pastel gel pens, and glitter gels pens.
  • Starting at the bottom of the card, glued sequins down to the card base and worked my way up to the top: used cream, brown, and gold sequins for the sand and rocks; turquoise sequins for the ocean; light blue sequins for the sky; silver sequins for a couple of clouds; and yellow sequins for the sun.
  • Adhered the smaller panel to the card; angled the smaller panel to give it a more relaxed, whimsical feel.

I love how the sequined backgrounds almost mimics a mosaic type of look!  It's also nice that some of them are a little more flat and others are a little more shiny to break it up.  I am definitely going to try this technique again!

A Bearable Birthday!

Hello, friends!

Welcome back to Paper Play.  Do you ever find yourself needing a quick birthday card and not having the right one in your stash?  It's nice to be able to fall back on something to help save you time when that happens - and that's the focus of today's post.  Blank Page Muse has a great digital download kit, It's Your Party, that will all will you to create a really nice handmade card.  It has a variety of papers, ephemera, greetings, and more.  I chose a paper that I really liked and paired it with one of Rick St. Dennis' adorable bear stamps.  The result is a card that is certain to make someone smile!

Here's what I used to create it:

 Here's how I made it:

  • Used the printer app for my printer to reduce the size of the digital background paper for the card (3.75" x 5") and printed it.
  • Adhered printed panel to card base with double sided tape, stamped the sentiment, and applied Glossy Accents to the balloons on the panel to give them texture and make them shine.  TIP: use a heat tool on low or a hair dryer to speed up the drying time of the glossy accents!
  • Stamped the bear onto white card stock; colored the image with a mix of alcohol markers, pastel gel pens, and glitter gel pens; fussy cut the image.
  • Adhered the bear to the card with a Wobbler Action Spring, which gives the bear some motion when tapped.
  • Placed two rows of rainbow gems under the sentiment.

Such a quick way to make a colorful and fun birthday card!

I hope you enjoyed this post and my tips for making a beautiful card in no time at all.  Let me know what you think!

A Visit from the North Pole

Merry Christmas!   I hope Santa came to visit you!
Today I am sharing this cute North Pole Holiday card using one of my favorite holiday stamp sets.

This card features  the North Pole Holiday Line Art Rubber Stamp Set by Rick St Dennis from Blank Page Muse. These images are so fun to color!  And would even be perfect to stamp and leave for a younger recipient to color.

Stamp by stamping your image onto your stamping card stock.  I chose to use archival inks because I love to color with watercolor markers and a water brush.

Start by coloring your image with your watercolor marker and a water brush. This create a lighted muted color. You can see the light greys in the sign and the light brown in the bear.

I decided I wanted some bolder colors in my image as well. To create the bolder colors I used my markers directly on the paper with no water brush. You can see the difference in the colors on the image.

Finish coloring your image as desired. Double matte your stamped image as shown and adhere to your card base. Finish your card with a few adhesive gems and a sticker greeting.

May You Never be too Old . . .

Hey there, friends!

It’s creative team member Walter back on the Blank Page Muse blog today.  The holiday season is in full swing and Christmas magic is in the air.  Today's post is all about that.  I have always loved the saying, "May you never be too old to search the skies on Christmas Eve."  It's so nostalgic for me - it brings back Christmas memories from my childhood and the good times that we had as a family.  Today's card celebrates that magic.

Here's what I used to make it:

I really love the vintage feel created by the country village and Santa stamps.  The mica spray and white ink splatters give the sky a snowy look, and the grits paste provides to much texture to the ground and roof tops.

I hope that my creation helps you feel some of the magic of the Christmas season!

How to make a cute and Not so Scary Halloween Card

Greetings!   today I am excited to share this super cute and not so scary Halloween card that I think will be perfect for my young granddaughter! She is at that age where she seems to get startled and scared easily.  So this cute little card featuring Blank Page Muse's Costume Bear Set of 6 Single Line Art Rubber Stamps by Rick St Dennis.  These bears are so cute and fun to stamp with!

I chose to stamp with grey archival ink and colored my image with watercolor markers and a water brush. Just look at the detail on this stamp.

I finished off the card with some matted checkered papers and a few leftover stickers.
