Genre: Death/Thrash
Country: Holland
Year: 2011

1. History Of A New Hell
2. Freedom Less

5. A Stone For Your Skull
6. Red Water
7. Boiled By Dead Water
8. Under Command
9. New World Domination / The Endless Quest

Debut album by Absurd Universe. The band is actually a side-project consisting of all Sinister members. Perhaps they want to offer us a more thrashy version of death metal. And they are doing it preeeety good. Great compositions clearly influenced mostly by Slayer, that retain their death metal 'roots'.

Tamut Amen - Demo 2011

Genre: Progr. Black
Country: Israel
Year: 2011

1. The Creatures
2. Ancient Demon
3. Million Pills
4. The Elite
5. She Returned

Tamut Amen sent me their 2011 demo to post it here. They play a complex style of black metal, that sometimes reaches the progressive level and you can easily hear some hardcore influences, probably coming from the members that were belonging in more grindcore/crossover bands like Whorecore, Mondo Gecko and Tea With Satan. The result is amazing, the production (for a demo recording) is great.

Here can be found the last vestiges of the band's black metal roots as well as the introduction of some of the epic soundtrack elements that would define their future direction. Silenius and Protector both contribute excellent harsh vocals as always. The keyboards create an amazing epic atmosphere while drum programming gives album medieval feeling and doesn't sound artificial at all.

13th album by Venom, 30 years after their debut, with Cronos the only one remaining from the original lineup. The album merge genres and styles, delivering a breathing mixture of metal, punk and rock, being fresh with a kind of charming retro taste. Cronos is still using his grimy, hoarse vocal tones and the riffs remain total throwbacks to a mixture of primal speed/thrash and NWOBHM.

2nd album by Misery Index. Here the band infuses death metal with a hardcore punk attitude and in your face political and social lyrics. Astounding musicianship combined with sheer brutal technicality. The songs are fast paced walls of sound, with a thick guitar sound, virtually inexistent bass, awesome drumming and very tasteful vocals.

Debut album by Mercyful Fate. Powerful, deceptively simple yet evil riffs surrounded by insanely complex song structures all delivered by a dual-guitar attack. Add in the vocals of the then-largely-unknown King Diamond and the game was forever changed. Melissa is damn-near perfect and it still 30 years later sounds fresh and exciting.

8. Wotan
9. Isöders Dronning

2nd album by Enslaved. While still maintaining a black-metal sound, Enslaved created a more crisply produced, keyboard enhanced brand of viking influenced black metal. Blast beats, Ivar Bjørnson's brilliant riffs, atmospheric keyboards, some folk-ish parts here and there, Nordic mythical lyrics, Grutle Kjellson's impressive vocals and a "crazy" Trym Torson behind the drum-kit. 6. The Dark Castle In The Deep Forest
7. Taakeslottet

Debut album by Satyricon. Occult norwegian black metal from the early 90s, cold and grim guitars with upbeat drumming and old school blasphemic vocals. This entire album resonates with a feeling of ominous darkness and almost dream-like atmosphere. Genuine medieval darkness is here, dark castles, evil forests, otherworlds, the plague and cold are all present on this album.

2nd album by Amorphis. Music on this album is doomy death metal, with a lot of folkish influences on guitar and keyboard melodies and there is a little bit progressive elements showing on song structures. There are smooth and atmospheric growls that have improved since the first album and from time to time clean male vocals. The lyrics are mostly adapted from a traditional Finnish national poem.

Debut album by Cross Examination. It doesn't bring anything particularly new to the table, but it succeeds at being what it attempts to be and that is a fun straightforward crossover record. The guitarwork on the album is fast and very unrelenting, there isn't a moment on the album where killer riffs aren't pounding you in the face. Lyrics about drinking beer, partying, weed-smoking dragons, the decapitation of hipsters and other killer themes!!!

Genre: Death/Doom
Country: Holland/Finland
Year: 2011

1. Asphyx - We Doom You To Death
2. Hooded Menace - Abode Of the Grotesque

Asphyx and Hooded Menace are spltting one song, never before released, of each other here. The Hooded Menace song is from the 'Never Cross The Dead' recording session and is easily just as good as any song off that album. Asphyx's song is their first recording with new bass player Alwin Zuur and it is a masterpiece of horrific death-doom. It is insanely heavy and slow and Martin Van Drunen's voice on this, it is just awesome!

14. Tenk Hvis Alle Hadde Alt
15. Dei Du Ikke Ser
16. Outro

Killer debut album by Livstid. They've lost the grind elements of their earlier Ep and split, but they still kill. Short to the point songs that rarely clock above the 2-minute mark. There is more than enough variation between the songs due to small nuances in the riffs and speeds. Grinding moments that bring in mind Nasum, melodies that remind old black metal bands, crusty atmosphere and non-stop D-beat filthiness!

19. The Augury 20. The Shaped Ape Blues

3rd album by Milking The Goatmachine, for a 3rd consecutive year. The grind moments are lesser this time, giving more space for a grooving standard-type death metal, and less brutal and extreme. The humour of the band seems to be never ending and furthermore is exactly what their fans expect. The production is excellent, so it sounds nice and fat.

3. Dying World
4. Tetrastructural Minds
5. Venus Project
6. Dark Creations, Dead Creators
7. Fast Paced Society
8. Outer Isolation

2nd album by Vektor. They continue playing thrash with  all the characteristics of the style. There are the sharp guitar riffs, the screaming vocals and the tight rhythm section, but on the other hand there's plenty of melody and complexity on the songs, that approaches the borders of progressive. The end product is much more aggressive, than their previous releases and often steps fully into blackened thrash. The production is excellent, clear enough to show every detail of the album, but also preserving the raw and old-fashioned feeling of the music.

5. A World To Gain
6. Frigid Bitch
7. Fighting Evil
8. The Twisted Cross
9. Annihilation Complete / Disemboweled

Debut and self-financed album by Anacrusis. It has its roots in a growing subcategory of thrash, a more progressive-based style. It is a relatively rough dose of thrash with fairly catchy riffs and only some intricate touches hinting at more ambitious developments to come. Kenn Nardi's vocals, manic and melodic clean styles are both well executed and hold the album together. The album is solid, especially for a low-budget debut and flaws are quite few and far between.

3. Terrible Certainty
4. As The World Burns
5. Toxic Trace
6. No Escape
7. One Of Us
8. Behind the Mirror

3rd album by Kreator. It's fast, agressive and not too pretty when it comes to production. The song structures are more complex, at times, and the riffs come off as a little more sophisticated than their previous releases. With this album, their popularity continued growing and they managed to gain some extra money (coming from the concerts) to finance the 'Out Of The Dark' 'Ep.

Debut album by The Wolves Of Avalon, a project by mighty Metatron (The Meads Of Asphodel). A great mix of celtic pagan tunes with black metal. The album is dedicated to Quorthon and his influences are obvious. Feeling more like a soundtrack than just 12 individual tracks, the gloomy, dark atmosphere of the album portrays the period around 500 A.D. and the Dark Ages gorgeously and expressively.

2nd album by S.O.D., 14 years after their legendary debut. The album has slightly too many funny songs and not enough of those brutal songs, that were on their 1st, with politically incorrect debatable hard lyrics. Ironic, desecrating lyrics and speed in music. There’s still plenty of neck-wrecking riffage, slaying thrash and blast beats, muddily distorted bass intros and the same pissed off, drunken goodness that we’ve come to expect from Billy Milano.
