Summoning - Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame

Genre: Atm.Black
Country: Austria
Year: 2001

1. A New Power Is Rising
2. South Away
3. In Hollow Halls Beneath The Fells
4. Our Foes Shall Fall
5. The Mountain King's Return
6. Runes Of Power
7. Ashen Cold
8. Farewell

5th album by Summoning. This is still slow, epic music fueled by orchestral keys and effective vocals, with a medieval feel. The album is reliant on the keyboards and the guitarwork has been 'sacrificed' and stayed in the background.

10. The Siege Of Lachish

2nd album by Melechesh. It is a fascinating concept and at over an hour long is sure to invite you in for a long voyage through the hot desert days and nights of genies, wizards, and witches! Vocals range from the standard black metal rasp, clean singing and chanting and are one of the best and most unique aspects of this album. There are light keyboard touches throughout the album and the guitar work is very varied.

Blunt Force Trauma - Good Morning America ... 'Ep

Genre: Crossover/Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2001

1. Intro
2. Infowar
3. Portrait Of Efficiency
4. Legislate
5. Good Morning America
6. Code Of Silence
7. Uncommon Heroes

Several years passed between Blunt Force Trauma's 'Ep and it's release, partly due to a lineup change in the band. Full of fast riffing and harsh vocals, but with modern influences like speed/thrash guitar work, clean vocal passages and a more punk approach. Felix Griffin (D.R.I.) is behind the drum kit.

Moonsorrow - Voimasta Ja Kunniasta

Genre: Black/Folk/Viking
Country: Finland
Year: 2001

1. Tyven
2. Sankarihauta
3. Kylan Paassa
4. Hiidenpelto / Hapean Hiljaiset Vedet
5. Aurinko Ja Kuu
6. Sankaritarina

2nd album by Moonsorrow. Throughout the entire 48 minutes all of the elements that one would expect from a Moonsorrow release are present. Heavy guitars, fantastic and diverse song structures, huge sweeping choirs, beautifully layered keyboards, folksy melodies, blood curdling screams, screeching vocals and ofcourse the intense atmosphere. Breath-taking, mighty and heroic feeling is the primary element on the album. It is blended very skilfully with effective metal components to create a tense ancient and heathen atmosphere.

Moonsorrow - Suden Uni

Genre: Black/Folk/Pagan
Country: Finland
Year: 2001

1. Ukkosenjumalan Poika
2. Koylionjarven Jaalla (Pakanavedet II)
3. Kuin Ikuinen
4. Tuulen Koti, Aaltojen Koti
5. Pakanajuhla
6. 1065: Aika
7. Suden Uni

The debut album by Moonsorrow is generally more folky melodic black metal sounding and baring a large resemblance to their fellow brethren in Finntroll, which was only natural since Henri Sorvali plays in both bands. The production is good but still rougher than later in their career, enhancing the already dusky atmosphere. Lyrical themes consist mainly of Finnish paganism, bloody battles of old times and nature’s might.

Debut album by Hammers Of Misfortune. Their music is described as progressive metal with elements of doom metal and NWOBHM. It is a three-act concept album, a swords-and-sorcery epic about vengeance, royalty and betrayal, told through the stellar songwriting of guitarist Cobbett and the triad of vocalists Mike Scalzi (Slough Feg, etc.), former Ministry bassist Janis Tanaka and Cobbett himself. Awesome record!

Dragonlord - Rapture

Genre: Symph. Black/Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2001

1. Vals De La Muerte
2. Unholyvoid
3. Tradition And Fire
4. Born To Darkness
5. Judgement Failed

8. Rapture

Debut album by Dragonlord, a black metal side-project of Eric Peterson (Testament), Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Sadus, etc.), Steve Smyth (Nevermore, Vicious Rumors, etc.) and Jon Allen (Sadus, Testament, etc.). Imagine Cradle Of Filth with a more thrashy edge. The riffs are typical brilliant thrash riff from Peterson with the keyboards and the singing giving it that black metal feel (even a few blast beats).
