about

‘The unbridled gore of “Walk Like a Ghost” sees the album hit it’s dimly lit delight from the offset. Themes of monotony and malaise come to the fore immediately. Indeed, these topics will play a central role throughout, as Vide searches for the tonic to the cyclical oblivion of routine.

Vide counts its hometown as “The Swamps of Louisiana and Texas”. Fittingly then, the murky depths of the bayou are brought to life on “Tomorrow Will Be Worse.” The gothic, industrial echoes of Darkthrone are sharpened with Vide’s Swiss army knife of textures.

The sonic aesthetic of the collection is one of charred tension. Every corner of the EP offers a different register of bleak, but each captures the listener in its own way. “The Waltz That Carried Me To My Grave” is in truth more of a death march, but one which proves both hypnotic and moreish.

Shoegaze closer “Decorated in Spiderweb” is a standout piece. There’s a swaying catharsis that cuts through the title track, as nods to 90s heroes My Bloody Valentine perforate the speakers. A haunting offering but one which offers a dampening of the insipid darkness of what has come before it.

Vide has offered a treat for those with a morbid curiosity for the black metal adjacent arena. The plod of the punk-primed drums and the dingey gothic tones are clever devices for the nightmare-ish journey Decorated in Spiderweb will take you on.’
