Young, yet already preparing to release their third album, Bliss Quintet is among Norway’s most active young jazz bands and has been described by Jazznytt as a defining voice for the current period. Together, they form a strong collective with energetic expression and joy in musical interplay, making them audience favourites at clubs and festivals both in Norway and abroad.
Their new album, "Live at Nattjazz '24", includes a full concert performance, consisting of seven compositions from the band's earlier studio albums. Recorded during the Nattjazz festival in Bergen in 2024, it captures the band in their element - on stage, engaging with the audience.
Dramatic and sentimental ballads, catchy fanfare-like horn riffs, complex rhythms, and expansive harmonic landscapes are Bliss Quintet's hallmarks. Yet at the core of the band's sound remains playful interaction, wild and energetic presence, and elements of free improvisation, aligning them with renowned Nordic ensembles such as Atomic and Masqualero.
Following the releases "Dramaqueen" and "Glasshouse" on Jazzland Recordings, Bliss Quintet has actively toured Europe, performing concerts in Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and appearing at festivals like Moldejazz, Burghausen International Jazz Festival, and Jazzahead. Their debut album was recognized by Ballade (NO) as Album of the Year, and by Selwyn Harris from Jazzwise (UK) as “an impressive-sounding young Norwegian band for the future.”
