1988 Skyway 300TA

After seeing much success in the BMX frame business, Skyway decided to make complete bikes for the first time in 1988. They offered 2 race models- the 300TA, and the lower priced 280TA. The 300TA featured triple-butted traditional shaped round tubing, and not the teardrop shaped tubing, which was one of the reasons why Skyway's T/A model from the early 80's was so popular and well-known. Skyway also stocked this race bike with spoked wheels, and NOT Tuff Wheels. The wheels chosen for this one was chrome Araya 7x rims mounted on Suzue sealed bearing hubs. My bike pictured here has been upgraded from the "fresh out of the box" model, to my "weekend warrior race bike" that I used in 1988. I added Redline Flight cranks with Suntour Beartrap pedals. That was pretty much the only upgrades that this bike needed! The 300TA was one of the very first race bikes that used Dia-Compe 990 U-brakes, which was a tremendous improvement over the MX1000's of the early 80's. You can lock up the brakes easily with a simple 2 finger squeeze. The brake cable was routed through the downtube, and through the lower portion of the seat tube. It was a pretty cool design! This bike also featured the now much sought-after Skyway race handlebars. Other parts include a DK Pro stem, Skyway 44 tooth Turbo Disc, Tioga Comp III tires, and Tioga headset.
