Holy crap!  You've got a lot of options there!! :)
So RAD that they are tearing it down only to build it better!
I'm tuned in to see the resurrection of the park, and I've got my fingers crossed that a few flatland photos get mixed in as well :P

Re: They are tearing down our skate park!!!....To build a NEW ONE!!!

Sorry, but this park looks like it will leave a lot to be desired.  No bowls?!  City planners need to understand progression, and that if they build something advanced folks will get better and eventually ride it.  That said, if you build something rad, it becomes a destination and will generate revenue for the town.  I’m glad your stoked and I’m glad your town is renovating the old POS.  At least it’s something.

Re: They are tearing down our skate park!!!....To build a NEW ONE!!!

Bowls are great when done well, but here in North Alabama, we have limited skate parks, and some are half thought out plans.  In Madison, we have a pay park that is probably the best one in Alabama.  It has a great bowl, a mini spine ramp, a vert ramp, and a decent street section.  In Huntsville, there is a free park that has the "peanut" bowl that is narrow enough that I have watched many people run and jump from one side to the other easily.  The street area is not bad, but it is built on an incline to the sole quarter pipe.  South of Birmingham, in Alabaster, there is a pay park that has a great bowl, but the street area was an after thought and is basically a couple of ledges, stairs, and a grind rail or two.  In Arab, there is a free park that is all metal ramps.  For some reason, it was all slammed in as tight as possible, so it is difficult to ride.  I can't even describe this park, but I will try. Four foot Wedge ramp, to half wedge half quarter tabletop looking thing with a curved rail on the quarter side and knee high straight rail on the wedge side, to quarter that is eight feet tapering down to six feet,  with three or four feet between each obstacle.  To the left is a box, to the right is a left right left right big rail.  I've seen good riders have fun, but I have seen great riders get frustrated, too because you can tell a group of people without ties to skateboards or bmx picked out and placed everything.  Now picture the square concrete pad to be similar in size to what is posted above and then limit everything I described to a 20 x 20 corner of the park.  The best part is there is a house maybe 200 yards from the metal skate park, so I feel bad for the guy that lives there, but he has one Hell of a stereo system that he blares random crap music in an attempt to drive away the skaters.
Here in Cullman, I have sat in on multiple meeting with our local parks and rec for three or four different park sites.  In 89 they built a "Youth" Mall that never had any youth related stores or really any stores.  There was a promise to build a Vert Ramp and a mini ramp.  The old tennis courts were going to be resurfaced and then prefab obstacles were to be added, but the local skate shop owner tried to explain that this would be a waste of money as "real" riders would not ride there and concrete would be a better option.  Heritage Park, home of Rock the South concert/music festival, has a section set aside, but instead we have disc golf and a dog park.

I keep buying and selling, so I guess I wasn't happy with the four I had left.

I find metal sheet skate ramps to be so slippery though.  I was at an indoor skate park the other day for the first time and slip out countless times as well because of Skatelite.  Can't say i'm a big fan of that either... and it's so expensive!

Re: They are tearing down our skate park!!!....To build a NEW ONE!!!

if painted correctly, metal can be okay if used as a surface layer on an outside ramp, but one screw or sheet sticking up can ruin a good day.
I'm not a fan.  Then again, I'm banned from the local ramp.  The former skate shop owner and I were good friends, but we had two back to back near fights because he was an aggressive drunk and I'm now the bad guy even though I would not fight him.  I may have picked him up (he had jumped and did a flip across my hood after throwing a bench from the Emerald City table at me, people don't do that) and let him know that I was not one to push too much very loudly and angrily the first time, the second time I just laughed and told him to go home and sober up because I couldn't understand him.  Shortly afterwards, his shop shut down, he lost his house, and he made the shop his house.  Weird situation all around and I do not know the details of any of it.

The park above was metal on metal, so the sound is horrible.  Loud clanging for every contact between skateboard and ramp.

wow!  that guy sounds crazy?  you used to be good friends and he fell off the deep end?

yes metal ramps are hellish loud!  have you skated Skatelite?  Like I said I didn't like it much either.  Took a few runs to get used to it's response.  i had to definately adapt to it and recalibrate my style...

It has been about ten years.  Wheel swapping to softer wheels helps, sometimes.

As far as my friend, he was on a steady downward spiral.  When he is doing well, one of the nicest people you will meet.  Just an angry drunk when drinking.
