Can’t wait for the next step to make it all come together!!! | By Life Is What You Make It | Alright, it's been a little while since I updated you on my kitchen island that I built mainly because I was trying to figure out what to do with the countertop. Last we left off, I built and installed the drawers and yes, those are soft-closed drawer slides. I will never go back to regular ones. I also got the drawer fronts made, routed, stained, and installed. I also got the inside countertops stained, the legs stained, and then the side piece put on and then I took it out and added some 90degree brackets to reinforce that side piece so that way it won't be wobbly in case somebody pulls it from the bottom. This worked out really well. This island was so much easier to build than my last one that was way more complicated. I will eventually have woodworking plans available for this in my Etsy shop and this is what it looks like whenever you take the drawer out from afar. I didn't get that part on video last time I recorded this. You do have to be careful not to pinch your fingers like my husband did on the leg when it falls down but I am so dang excited for how this turned out. Also, those hinges I installed on the legs, they lock into place so that way the leg can't be kicked in when there's food and stuff on it. The only left to do is to seal the whole island and then to figure out the countertop and I have a solution. I'm going to cut this three quarter of an inch MDF down and then glue two pieces together, route the edges, and then epoxy it. I've been pecking for a reason to try out this stone coat epoxy. I hear it's the best. I'm going to attempt to recreate a Taj Mahal style countertop. If you don't know what that is, you'll have to look it up. It's super popular right now. Now, I will admit, I've used epoxy before. This was chalk paint and then I went over it with epoxy and it looks in these photos and it looked great right after I did it. But look it's yellowed and it has pink spots. I think the pink spots are from the heat from my dishwasher but I'm not exactly sure. So I'm hoping for a better result with Stonecoat Epoxy.
