Chocolate Vine Seeds, Akebia Quinata, Five Leaf Akebia Vine, AK0115
A fascinating and vigorous vine. The vine has male and female flowers. The male flowers are lavender and the female flowers are very dark purple-chocolate to nearly black and smell like chocolate! They hang in clusters that is just stunning on a fence, trellis or rock wall. The flowers are followed by white-lavender seed pods that mature to blue and contain a sweet edible pulp that is similar to kiwi. The two most common Akebia's are Trifoliata (3 leaf) and Quintata (5 leaf). The difference in the plants, as you can imagine is the leaf count. The trifoliata has stems with 3 leaves and the quintata has five, which gives it a delicate version of a Schefflera like look. Grows 20-40 feet tall. Perennial zones 4-10, Evergreen in zones 6+ Seeds can be sown in fall or winter for a spring emerg
