Galena Berkompas • Urban Flower Farm • Education on Instagram: "I get a lot of questions about growing in bulb crates so here’s the breakdown on why I do it and how I do it. Why I do it? For dahlias, I do it because I want to grow more and I’m limited on space. The bulb crates are on parts of my property where I can’t plant in the ground: I use these as an alternative to grow bags, because I also use bulb crates for storing dahlia tubers (so I have a bunch!). For tulips, I use them because they are WAY easier than digging trenches and planting in the ground. They also protect from voles if you have them… and my tulips grow tall and gorgeous every year so they get plenty of cold hours in there! Now, keep in mind, that if you live in a really cold zone, it’s possible they’ll get too cold
