Cute fabric prints

A copy of the new boxed set V&A Pattern made its way across my desk, and I couldn’t resist. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London is one of the world’s great museums of design, and the book catalogs the patterns from the museum’s collection. This first boxed set is made up of four slim volumes each contains a CD of high resolution images that will provide sources of inspiration along the lines of décor, design, textile, pattern, tone — and of course, color.

The Men’s #Suit: Exploring #Patterns - Patterned fabrics help bring a breath of fresh air into what can otherwise be a somewhat stilted selection of suits. As one might expect, patterns are a bit more difficult than solid colors, and require more thought in their selection. As a general rule, patterns are less formal than solid colors, and so should be reserved for more relaxed occasions.

Check out Lulu deKwiatkowski’s new line of children’s fabrics for Schumacher. The textile designer used a modern palette of pastels and brights with the bold, handpainted style for which she is known and loved. There are eight prints, six embroideries, and embroidered tape, all on cotton grounds in multiple colorways. We can’t wait to see these start appearing in kids’ rooms.
