2. Indian Deccan Broadsword (Khanda) Dated: 16th Century Measurements: 78cm; 30 3/4in blade The sword has a broad flat pattern-welded blade widening towards the tip, steel hilt comprising a pair of shaped panels extending over the lower portion of the blade, and two short arms probably for blade catching. There is a figure-of-eight applied beneath with a pair of silver lines. The pommel is cup-shaped while the lower part of the hilt is engraved with scrolls and flowers.
Indian kirach, probably a Maratha weapon and found in the 18 century in Vizianagaram. Its blade is heavy, single almost straight edge, but with a forward curved spine. The older Kirach sword will usually come with the heavy Hindu style basket hilt. Later ones are found also with Tulwar style hilt, great and impressive, probably early 18 century, 34 inch blade with the triple fuller along its spine is typical to this sword, steel hilt and retained the original grip fiber binding. (Very Rare).
