First released in 1981, Nintendo’s Donkey Kong is a hugely successful arcade platforming game at the root of a classic video franchise family tree. Based on the suspiciously familiar ‘giant monkey kidnaps damsel in distress’ premise, it was originally created by Nintendo to make use of unsold cabinets for the unsuccessful Radar Scope game.

Today's random figure is cty0138Fire - Reflective Stripes, Black Legs, Silver Fire Helmet, Gray Beard, Yellow Air Tanks, a Town figure that came in one set, 852513 City Hero Magnet Set, released during 2009.

The model recreates two of the most recognisable locations from the original series Star Trek – the bridge and transporter room of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

The newest series of Collectable Minifigures has been officially announced, featuring a selection of characters from the Shrek movies!
As usual, there are twelve minifigures to collect, although some are packaged with an additional character, like Fiona and Donkey. Each minifigure will cost £3.49, $4.99 or €3.99 and they will be released on September 1st.

The LEGO House occasionally hosts events only tangentially related to the LEGO Group, such as the International Bugatti Meeting that took place in June.
An exclusive set was designed for the event and distributed to attendees: 4000048 Bugatti Type 35. Only 250 copies have been produced, which is a great shame because I think the model looks fantastic! The wheels appear to be 3D-printed and a few printed elements are seemingly included as well.
I am normally quite accepting of highly exclusive products like this one, only created for LEGO employees or special events, as the vast majority of those would not realistically perform well as retail sets. However, I find this one quite annoying, as there have been very few sets based on racing cars of this era and I believe this set would have been popular. Perhaps we can have a Speed Champions version at some point.

Who doesn't love a beach house? I wish I had one. This is another area the Friends are far ahead of me in, as there have been three beach houses in the Friends world to date. So for the fourth beach house (and the first for this generation), the designers have added something new. Previous beach houses have had dolphins, but for a new spin, the latest version has seals! Hence, the very logical name: 42699 Beach House with Seals.
Will the dolphins be jealous? There's just one way to find out, as I wrap up the last set from the first wave of the year.

The LEGO Group, in collaboration with Disney Entertainment, today unveils the LEGO Ideas The X-Files (21369) set, a 1,478-piece model that invites adult fans to celebrate the iconic '90s sci-fi drama.
To mark the reveal, Emmy Award-winning actor, Gillian Anderson, stars in a cinematic mini-film tribute to the beloved series. With a nod to FBI Special Agent Dana Scully, Anderson is drawn into an investigation that gradually leads her to uncover the LEGO set itself, piece by piece – bringing the world of The X-Files into brick-built form for the fans.
The LEGO Ideas The X-Files set recreates iconic moments from the series, centred on a detailed build of Fox Mulder’s office, paired with a forest clearing scene and a hovering UFO. The set includes 8 Minifigures: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman and a grey alien, allowing fans to recreate key investigations and encounters.
In April, Netflix announced that a LEGO ONE PIECE two-part animated special would be premiering on September 29th. A full teaser trailer has been released today, showing us a bit more of what we can expect.
The minute-long trailer promises a recap of the live-action series so far, told from Usopp's perspective with the usual LEGO style of humor. The live-action cast reprises their roles, which is nice to see.
