Another Studios Monster set. Interesting...
And the third set in a row to come with a spider (four if you count the Cyber Slam Spider). Very interesting...

Man that skeleton actor is good. Talk about method acting...

By in United States,

This is a good small Studios set and I really like that mummy minifigure

That trans-neon green spider crawled all the way from the arctic...

By in Australia,

Well, we are sticking to the theme.

I liked this one, though. The mummy figure was really cool.

This is my favorite Mummy minifig. And how can you go wrong with a glow in the dark skeleton head and a trans-clear spider?!? $4 heaven, my friends.

By in United States,

Aw looks like Huwbot's stuck

It's fine though. The horror films were my favorite subtheme of Studio!

Well, now that someone cracked open that rock it was trapped in, it’s trying to get as far from the TNG scorpion as it possibly can.

Box art is clearly inspired by a certain professor/archeologist adventure film involving underground miniature cities and snakes. I guess it kind of fits.

Unique: 3

2452 1x2 plate with 3 continuous hinge tabs on long side in tan x1

I always liked the little sphinx on top of the tomb. Very neat use of the lion's-head brick.

2002: For 4$, you get 50 pieces, one minifigure, and one skeleton.

2021: For 5$, you get just one minifigure.

Ouch...

I wonder how happy you have to be to have your smile show through bandages like that!

That's what inflation will do to you. I remember getting sets like 6503 and 6506 for two bucks and change back in the day.

Now THIS was the one set from the Horror subtheme of Studios that I wanted to get! The horror genre's never been my thing, so I had no interest in the rest of the wave at the time; but I've had a thing for Egpytian-themed Lego ever since Adventurers came to my attention in 1999 - incidentally, at almost exactly the same time we were looking at Ancient Egypt in primary school, which firmly engrained it as THAT ONE CHILDHOOD INTEREST for me - and I'd loved Lego skeletons and Lego trapdoor pieces since that same time (5938, which had both, was my first Egypt Adventurers set), so this set was right down my alley. Add to that that the minifigure looked like a more heavily-bandaged upgrade of Pharaoh Hotep (adv021) from that same Adventurers line - who I never owned myself, despite him being top of my minifigure wanted list at the time - and I was completely sold.

Yet somehow, despite that, I never actually got the set.

Maybe I just figured I had enough skeletons by then - four and counting! - or maybe I just didn't see the set in shops and so didn't pick it up, since this was before I was aware of internet shopping being a thing that existed. In any case, missed opportunity on my part xD

Cute figures and cool set.

By in United States,

This set doesn't even come with studio equipment making it more of a regular Adventurers set.

Also, did an ancient murder suspect go for the ole' "two for one burial" by sneaking another body in the tomb?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Well, No cameramen or boom operators in this shot. Hardly qualifies as a studios set.

That's a Blacktron spider if I ever saw one.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I really liked this set back in the day.

The build is a bit dull like many of it's time, but there's plenty of useful (and rare) parts in it.

It's also one of the last sets to use the old thinner hinge plates (the ones with 3 to 2 fingers) even in tan!

I also really like the tan lion head that I sadly mised out in Knights' Kingdom I.

It was kind of a thing in Egyptian culture that various people would be entombed with you, if you were a pharaoh. Some would be retainers to serve you in the afterlife. Others might be the engineers who designed the traps and other tricks to keep tomb robbers out, so they couldn’t reveal the secrets of how to get in and out safely and easily. Some early cultures took “til death do us part” a little too seriously, and would add wives and servants to the funeral when husbands died.

The tomb of the first Chinese emperor had a similar feel, as he was buried with an entire army of soldiers to serve and defend him. However, in this case, they were all made of terra cotta pottery, and each had a unique face (meaning they probably modeled them after real people).

The original “V” series took the whole idea to a particularly gruesome end, as convicted murderers would be sedated and placed in the coffin with their victim’s corpse before being launched into space, where they would regain consciousness before ultimately dying themselves (likely due to asphyxiation, unless they had the means to end things quicker).

"OOOF that sphinx... the studio must’ve had some serious budget cuts."

Or maybe it’s just a Hammer B-Movie. That could be Vincent Price’s skeleton for all we know

Wow, I never knew this set existed! It would go well the the first wave of Adventurers sets (which I have several), and that mummy is awesome and unique to this set. I'm going to have to get a copy
