Krusty Krab is unfair!
Mr. Krabs in in there!
Standing at the concession!
Plotting his oppression!

That’s kinda harsh. I loved this set as a kid.

If it’s any help, I’ve found the Minifigures can be found for pretty good prices on the second-hand market! Think Spongebob and Sandy are my personal favorite figures from the line.

I always loved these sets as a kid. I had the bus as well as this, and neither of them stayed together for very long!

By in United States,

About time we got a new Krusty Krab set. Probably too soon for another full run of the theme, the last two got most of what we needed covered, but the restaurant in particular has been without rep for a while.

This is probably the whiniest-sounding comment I’ve seen on Brickset. Seriously man, there’s no need to be this upset.

It did on May 3rd.

Well, looking at the last few RSOTDs, at least you can't say Huwbot's choices are not varied.

Im just done with what hes done He first chose belville then galidor then A not so cool technic and then scala and then a sports set that was made from spare parts. "

If you want to see Bionicle sets, then just go look at the Bionicle sets. The website has a pretty large database. I’m sure you’ll find something there to keep you happy.

It’s called the RANDOM set of the day, not the SET TO SPECIFIC TASTES of the day.

By in United States,

Wow, we've got a cranky bunch right off the bat. What's the matter, did you all get duped into eating at the Chum Bucket or something? If I may, I suggest you take some time to relax with some jellyfishing, how's that sound?
Don't take it out on Huwbot, he's only doing his job.
Don't take it out on the set either, it's 15 years old and just doing its job, too. Looking through the instructions, sure, it's a little bare bones, but at the same time, it accomplishes the goal of being the Krusty Krab, there are play features, and while it may seem small, it's not exactly to scale in the show either. Sure, it's missing some things, and it's got some of the details wrong in where things are placed, but it's got what you would want, and with a few references to fan favorite episodes. There's a safe for Mr. Krabs to stash his money and the Krabby Patty secret formula that Plankton is always hoping to steal, you can fling burgers out to the hungry masses, and there's even the dumptster where you can lose a nametag or learn sentence enhancers. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed I didn't get this set back in 2006, I would have had some fun with it.
LEGO has always been there for us when it was convenient for them. So if we could just pretend that this set was a fire station, or some place with an ambulance, we can all pull together and discover what it truly means to be in a LEGO fandom.
Now let's make Huwbot proud. A one, a two, a skiddly diddly doo!

Don't hold your breath. They lost the license.

@ALEGOMan:
See above. But this one was really unusual. They've also lost the TMNT license, but you could still find Turtle keychains hanging from the racks at LEGO Stores and LEGOLAND shops for a few years after. When the Spongebob license ended, the LEGO Stores (and probably every LEGOLAND shop) had to pack up any remaining stock and return it to the warehouse for destruction. I've never heard why that was the case, and I don't know of any other theme that ended the same way.

By in Brazil,

Two terrible things of the SpongeBob theme:

- Why did one of the most popular cartoon shows in the world had a theme EXCLUSIVE to the US and Canada? Why? It was my favorite show when I was a kid, I wanted so much to have the sets from the theme at the time...

- It is absurd how Lego never tried to make a decent set of the Krusty Krab. Both versions are very poor.

Much better rendition of the Krusty Krab than the one that came after it. Loved these spongebob sets so much, I just wish they weren’t so hard to come by in Australia, they were mostly retail exclusives.

My first ever set. Absolutely spectacular, especially for just $20. Very nostalgic.

@lynels:
It could be a product of the timespan of this theme. They'd just posted two large annual losses in 2003 and 2004 (I just found out there was a small annual loss in 1998, but I have to wonder how much of that is due to paying upfront licensing fees for Star Wars without being able to recoup any of that investment until the following year). They'd completely overhauled the way the company operated. There were strict limits on creating new elements, and Spongebob needed a considerable number of them just for the minifigs. The fact that Squidward would later end up with a sculpted head after being just deco on a basic minifig in this set says a lot about how tightly they were adhering to that limit.

Compare it to the first decade of SW sets or the original run of Harry Potter, and they don't look that different. AFOLs had not yet become regular hires for design work, so most of the people who were designing new sets probably learned how to build and design models on the job.

These days I suspect most minifig-based design teams include at least one person who grew up building and playing with the company's products, and who was tapped into the AFOL community before joining the company. They bring with them a lot of new knowledge regarding building techniques, and a different mindset regarding aesthetics. If this theme had been licensed ten years later, the result would have probably looked very different.

By in United Kingdom,

Apologies in advance to the French speaking parts of the world.....
Why does 'Bob L'eponge' make me laugh? It looks like fake French where people just put 'Le' in front of everything. I think it might be the 'pong' part of it. I am trying to sing the theme in my head with this french version and it doesn't work?
What's french for "eye eye Captain"?

Man, that is a very ugly looking CGI Box Art...

By in Germany,

Quite an underrated theme.
I have the buildable SpongeBob, got it in as new condition on Bricklink once, and even though I never watched the source material I really like the sets of this theme.

Oui oui capitaine. I can’t see anything puerile in there at all.

I was wondering if someone would point it out. This one looks really bad, especially the transparent pieces. Everything just looks so flat and the lighting is complete whack. They should never have used CG so widely until it was good enough for the job.

By in United Kingdom,

Surely the full translation Bob l'éponge pantalons carrés would sound more impressive, and guarantee a window seat at the Krusty Krab. The 3D view is worth looking at as it shows the interior which is not too sparse, with tables and chairs so playability was included and having the separate grill increases the internal space as well. Is the green mini-fig meant to be Squidward and the round brick Plankton? I would have loved a Patrick Star as well.

I have a suspicion that they were aiming for a stylized look. I remember the Bionicle artwork looking much more realistic, but this looks like when they feed live-action footage through a computer to produce a faux-CGI look.

By in United Kingdom,

So did the Spongebob and Mr Krabs moulds not leave them enough budget and room to make a Squidward mould?

They did come out in Europe, I didn't have any of the 2006 sets but had the Bus and Sandy's Rocket which I sold a few years ago to make space

Isn't the CG looking flat, in this case at least, intentional? I thought it was to mimic the 2D look of the cartoon without actually being 2D. Lego had been putting out higher quality CG images for Bionicle sets for five years by this point, so they knew how to make them look better than this; so I always put it down to a deliberate stylistic choice.

The set doesn't appeal much to me; but then again, I've never had interest in the show, either. I mostly only know anything about it from the vast amount of internet memes that it gave rise to... xD

@Brickalili:
Strictly speaking in terms of minifigs (because they’re much easier to research), 2006 had the Spongebob “armor”, Patrick’s face-tentacle, and Mr. Crab’s head. 2007 only added Mrs. Puff (head and legs). 2008 was the doctor/bus driver head, Sandy’s head, and Sandy’s bubble helmet (which later showed up as a street lamp in the Winter Village). 2009 only produced Squidward’s molded head. There were no new sets in 2010, and the sets in 2011 and 2012 didn’t include any new minifigs molds, so Squidward was actually the last new minifig mood that went into production for this theme, and it’s entirely possible they couldn’t budget for it earlier than they did.
