Four-Decades-Family-Owned 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible 289
This triple-black 1966 Ford Mustang was restored and modified between 2006 and 2017 by the seller’s father. Byers SR-100
This Byers SR-100 roadster features fiberglass bodywork designed by Jim Byers in El Segundo, California. Approximately 25 SR100 bodies were produced, and the body of this example is said to have been mounted atop a Kaiser-sourced chassis upon completion in the late 1950s in Springfield, Missouri. The car is noted to have been put into storage in the 1970s before being acquired by the seller and their father from the estate of a friend’s uncle in 2011. A subsequent refurbishment project involved a repaint in blue as well as fabrication of a custom tube-frame chassis. Power is supplied by a 289ci Ford V8 fitted with a Holley carburetor, intake manifold, and camshaft along with Flotek aluminum cylinder heads, while shifting is through a T5 five-speed manual transmission. The roadster rides on 15″ five-spoke wheels and is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes as well as a Jaguar-sourced independent rear suspension. Further details include a side-exit exhaust system along with a wrap-around windshield ahead of black vinyl–trimmed bucket seats. This Byers SR-100 is now offered by the seller on behalf of their father with refurbishment photos, a custom hardtop, and a Missouri title listing it as a 1960 model.
