  • The real #tokenmaxxing is about #valuemaxxing. At TechCrunch #Disrupt2026, Darrell Etherington asked CapitalG Partner @Mo Jomaa, Together AI CEO Vipul Ved Prakash, and Pathway CEO Zuzanna Stamirowska how leading companies are navigating a multi-model world, deploying and scaling intelligence in an effective and cost-efficient way. Among the themes that were highlighted: 🔹 Tokenmaxxing is about value, not volume. As Mo Jomaa shared, the shift to multiple models and value optimization prompted him and Jane Alexander to invest in OpenRouter, which was recently acquired by #CapitalGfamily company Stripe. 🔹 Owning your intelligence controls your destiny. "The more you can do to own your own intelligence, the more you can control your own destiny," shared Jomaa. Startups can avoid vendor lock-in and build deeper moats by building their own evals and owning their harness, an approach championed by portfolio companies like LangChain. 🔹 Companies often adopt a multi-model maturation curve. They frequently begin by using frontier models, but as they break down workflows into discrete tasks, they can optimize for speed, cost, and performance. Companies like Lovable utilize what is best for each specific task, while platforms like Baseten help founders post-train their own models to outperform general, off-the-shelf options. 🔹 Speed is the ultimate advantage. "The world looks so different today than it did a year ago and will again next year. We want to back companies that can move quickly," stated Jomaa. As Vipul Ved Prakash added, in some cases "10-person teams with the right intelligence tools can now execute faster than massive, 100-person organizations." Watch the full Disrupt session here: https://lnkd.in/gN-DSaDv Special thanks to panelists Darrell Etherington, Vipul Ved Prakash, and Zuzanna Stamirowska, as well as Connie Loizos, Richard Smith, Lauren Piggott, Selyca Medford, Russell Brandom and the entire #TechCrunchDisrupt team for a great event and fantastic conversation.

  • Are we in an investing bubble--or witnessing the fastest industrial buildout in modern history? Fortune editorial director Kristin Stoller kicked off the State of Venture panel at Fortune's 2026 #MostPowerfulWomen summit with that question and more as she asked CapitalG Managing Partner Laela Sturdy, Goldman Sachs' Meena Lakdawala-Flynn, and Terri Burns to unpack the fundamental shifts transforming venture investing today. As an investor writing large checks behind some of the industry's most consequential startups, Laela shared the following core insights defining this market cycle: 🔹 Speed has rewritten the growth stage playbook. Category-defining startups are scaling to $100M in ARR in 1-2 years, a velocity that took the previous generation 5–6 years to achieve. Founders of today's top startups like Whatnot, Lovable, Baseten, and Clay are focused on velocity as they seek to build, hire, and scale faster. 🔹 Real ROI underpins the CapEx numbers. Projected AI infrastructure spending may reach $1.5 trillion through 2028 (nearly 2.8% of GDP), and as staggering as that figure is, the business traction behind that investment level is real. Revenue acceleration and tangible ROI are already visible across enterprise workflows, robotics, and life sciences. 🔹 The biggest impact lives beyond chatbots. Breakthroughs in physical and applied AI will reshape foundational human industries, from Waymo scaling autonomous urban mobility to Isomorphic Labs using Nobel Prize-winning protein-folding models for computational drug discovery. 🔹 We're witnessing a structural evolution in capital markets. Many leading companies are choosing to stay private longer, utilizing private capital to execute long-term bets without quarterly market noise. For example, #CapitalGfamily company Stripe, whose Series D Laela co-led back in 2016 and which CapitalG has continued to back over the past decade, has brilliantly harnessed private liquidity to build an enduring platform and drive strategic M&A, including their recent acquisition of another #CapitalGfamily company, OpenRouter. • At this point, AI adoption among the world's leading enterprises is nearly universal. Value creation beyond the individual contributor level, on the other hand, is often a work in progress, as companies reimagine workflows and processes to leverage AI's enormous power and promise. How to get to the next stage of true enterprise-wide value accrual was tackled at CapitalG's Enterprise Leaders Network event last week featuring 80+ Fortune 100 technology leaders actively shaping the future of enterprise software. Read on from Adam Naor and Monica Plaza, and check out https://lnkd.in/gbzkPPeS for more.

AI adoption at the world's leading enterprises is universal. Value creation is still a work in progress. Last week, CapitalG hosted 80+ Enterprise Technology Leaders including CIOs, CDOs and CTOs from Fortune 100 companies across a dozen industries to compare notes on turning AI pilots into results. The consensus: individual productivity is up, but company performance isn't, because underlying workflows haven't changed. A faster employee isn't a better company. That gap is organizational, not technical. Four grounded lessons stuck with us: 🎯 Make fewer, bigger bets. One retailer collected a thousand AI ideas, only to realize they had simply made a thousand promises. The best leaders know when to stop a misguided but well-funded idea. ✂️ Redesign the work instead of merely automating it. Reimagination asks whether the work should happen that way at all. Success is measured by the number of handoffs removed, not the number of pilots launched. 💡 Ask whether you even need a model at all. Sometimes clean, connected data turns hours of reporting into seconds. Reaching for a complex model when structured data is all you need is like using a power tool to flip a light switch. 🤝 The best implementations are a team effort, not merely a tooling one. The most successful rollouts are built directly alongside the target users. Where is your organization still automating a workflow that should be redesigned? Tell us in the comments. At CapitalG, we are relentless about closing the gap between where a company is and where it could be. Whether we're connecting our founders to experts across Google or, through the Enterprise Leaders Network, the Fortune 100 technology leaders who are actively shaping the future of enterprise software, we're here to deliver the relationships and insights where it matters.

  • The barriers to software creation are disappearing before us, as AI coding tools and agents expand the possibilities of who can build and what they can create. Supabase is a critical foundation layer making the democratization of software possible. By combining a powerful open-source Postgres foundation with an accessible developer experience, Supabase is increasingly where the next generation of builders turn for backend support. Congratulations to Paul Copplestone, Ant Wilson, Glauber Costa, and the Supabase and Turso teams on their latest milestone: a $150 million funding round with participation from CapitalG, GIC, IronArc Ventures and SquarePeg, and Supabase's acquisition of Turso, as covered today by Sri Muppidi for The New York Times. The platforms momentum is extraordinary, now adding more than 1 million users and 4 million databases per month—with roughly 70% of new databases created by agents or AI-driven tools. By acquiring Turso, Supabase will make spinning up vast numbers of on-demand databases highly economical, removing infrastructure bottlenecks for creators everywhere. Derek Zanutto, Mo Jomaa, Conner Lovely, and all of us at CapitalG are thrilled to support Supabase as it builds the default database backend for this new era of software.

The power to build software is shifting from the hands of the few to the hands of the many. AI coding tools and agents are lowering the barriers to entry, turning domain experts and creative minds into active builders. Supabase is the foundation making that shift possible, steadily becoming the default layer powering this new wave of software creation. Mo Jomaa, Conner Lovely, and all of us at CapitalG are proud to support Supabase's $150M round. We're also excited to back Supabase's acquisition of Turso, which lets platforms provision enormous numbers of isolated, cost-effective databases on demand. Bringing Glauber Costa, Pekka Enberg, and the Turso team into the fold means infrastructure costs and database complexity never have to stand in a builder's way. Congratulations to Paul Copplestone, Ant Wilson, Scott Buxton and the entire Supabase team -- we're excited to keep working closely with you as you scale into this next stage of growth!

Today we're announcing our $115M Series D, led by Wellington Management, at a $7.1B valuation. Our mission is to grow every company to its full potential. To do that, we need to do 3 things: 1. Aggregate the best B2B data — check 2. Build the GTM infrastructure (audiences, workflows, agents) to run any campaign on top of the data — check 3. Build a self-learning revenue engine — in progress Clay predicts the next best action to grow your business and helps you take it. The people who build and run these growth engines are GTM Engineers. Just as software engineers use coding agents to write code, GTM engineers use growth agents to create growth. You don't need to be a GTM engineer to use Clay, but the title describes the skillset it takes to grow a company with AI. Since we coined the term two years ago, the role has spawned PhD dissertations, headhunters, and its own bootcamps. There are now thousands of GTMEs growing the world's best companies. The GTME career is in demand, and we want to accelerate it. That’s why we’re also announcing a new $1 million scholarship fund to train the next generation of GTM engineers. If you want to learn more: -The NYT story by Michael de la Merced clay.link/BiqGhn3 -Our blog post: clay.link/Y4wtjeH -GTME scholarship fund: clay.link/5RHsM6e Finally, two invitations. Come see the future of agentic GTM at Sculpt, our second annual conference, October 8th in SF — I guarantee it will blow your mind: clay.link/R6zDaqh And if you'd rather build that future than watch it, we're hiring! A big thank you to our customers, our community, and our investors for your support, belief, and energy as we tackle this next phase of growth. I'm very excited for where we're headed!

  • The transition to AI-scale computing requires reimagining the physical networks that connect modern data centers. As AI workloads expand across thousands of accelerators and multiple facilities, optical connectivity has emerged as the critical backbone determining how efficiently clusters perform. Congratulations to Nariman Yousefi, Oscar Agazzi, and the entire Celero Communications team on their $275 million Series C financing at a valuation exceeding $3 billion. CapitalG is proud to co-lead this round alongside Atreides Management, LP and Valor Equity Partners, with continued participation from existing investors Sutter Hill Ventures and Maverick Silicon. This milestone follows the successful validation of the industry's first 2nm coherent DSP silicon, pairing advanced digital signal processing with proprietary analog design. By establishing a scalable pathway from 1.6T to next-generation 3.2T optical interconnects, Celero delivers higher-bandwidth, lower-power data transmission that unlocks both scale-up clusters and scale-across data center fabrics. When CapitalG led Celero’s Series B less than a year ago, we recognized that coherent DSPs would become essential infrastructure for AI at scale. Today, James Luo, Jamie Rosen, and all of us at CapitalG are thrilled to deepen our commitment to this exceptional team as they build the networking foundation for the future of computing. • Few enterprise software categories have remained as untouched as architecture. While other industries moved to simpler, more collaborative software, architecture stayed tied to a platform built for an era before cloud computing, real-time collaboration and AI. But no longer. Congratulations to Amar Hanspal and the team at Motif for launching an entirely new platform for modeling and design. We can't wait to see what the leading architects and design professionals of the world build in collaboration with you. Jill (Greenberg) Chase Manmeet Gujral

Today we reveal Motif Design to the world. We've been working for 3.5 years to bring BIM software into the 21st century. 3.5 years of intimately learning what our customers need. 3.5 years of shipping, iterating, and starting over until we got it right. 3.5 years of asking you to trust that what we were building was worth the wait. So here it is. An entirely new platform for modeling and design. Agent-native, parametric, associative BIM. Open. Collaborative. Live. Customizable. Browser-based without sacrificing performance. Built to capture your firm's knowledge, so you're not starting from zero when an expert retires or building that pocket door from scratch for the 500th time. It's what you told us you wanted, and it's finally yours. Thank you to the customers who gave us their time and their honest opinions, to the peers who rallied with us, to the skeptics who pushed us to think differently. And, of course, to the Motif team who made this moment happen. While we celebrate this moment, we're not nearly done. There's more to build. Come build it with us.

From Cloudflare and Stripe to Databricks and CrowdStrike, generational shifts breed generational companies. Today, one generational team is joining forces with another as they build the economic infrastructure for AI. When Jane Alexander and Mo Jomaa led OpenRouter's Series B, they saw a team solving the core coordination problem of multi-model AI and creating deep developer gravity. As Alex Atallah wrote, "Stripe has spent over a decade building trusted, neutral infrastructure for businesses, and OpenRouter was built on the same philosophy." We're thrilled to congratulate Alex Atallah, Chris Clark, Louis Vichy and the entire OpenRouter team on their plans to join forces with Patrick Collison, John Collison, William Gaybrick and the incredible leaders at Stripe whom we've been proud to partner with since 2016.

Huge congratulations to the OpenRouter team for building one of the most important and beloved AI infrastructure companies, and for joining forces with another wildly important and beloved infrastructure company, Stripe. When we led OpenRouter’s Series B, we held a strong belief that the future would be one of wild proliferation of models, model providers, and inference providers. When we imagined what would be true in that world we were pretty sure of three things. First, gateways would become a critical part of every developer stack. Second, there would be a lot of competing gateways (there already were a few!). And third, the “CFO reckoning” was coming for AI spend. At the time, many companies were bragging about their token spend as something to maximize. Teams had live dashboards in the office of who could burn the most tokens. Employees had set up bots to burn tokens in order to look good for promotions. It was clear to us that token spend was not the metric to optimize in the long-term, tasks completed and value added would be. Effective routers and enterprise tooling would be critical for individuals and enterprises to earnestly harness the power of this new technology to drive the right metrics and business outcomes. So with a world view that this was critical infrastructure, but there would likely be many competitors, how did we know that OpenRouter was going to win? First, OpenRouter had created gravity. It was the absolute default and favorite place for developers. Its data was already cited everywhere. OpenRouter had built the best and most elegant product, they were the most active in the community, and the most wonderful team for all the relevant partners to work with. This is a best in breed purchase, and a market where volume itself becomes an advantage. Volume begets more volume, so the team that is able to create that gravity creates momentum that is hard to catch up to. Second, the team is just fantastic. After every single meeting with the OpenRouter team Mo and I would turn to each other and say “we have to work with these guys!” Investing is a crazy wonderful job in that you get to choose who you work with. Finding a way to work with Alex, Chris, and Louis became our mission. And we knew we weren’t the only ones who would feel that way. They are the team that developers, partners, and exceptional talent are all deeply drawn to. This is part of what makes OpenRouter so magical. Another type of gravity. Joining Stripe will only accelerate OpenRouter in pursuit of their mission. Stripe, like OpenRouter, is a neutral platform that is expert in handling extreme volume, and has earned the trust and love of the communities they serve. I cannot wait to see what you both do together. Thank you Alex, Chris, and Louis for letting us be part of your journey. The best is yet to come! 🚀
