French Mid-Century Ceramic Lidded Pot
Pot with two handles and a cover in blue black and grey ceramic . Handmade in Vallauris in the south of France by the artist Albert Thiry. Originally from Nice, the Thiry family settled in the famous village of potters in Vallauris in 1943. After studying at the School of Decorative Arts in Nice, Albert Thiry continued his training as a trainee in various pottery workshops, notably with Charles VOLTZ (1923-1997). In Vallauris in 1956, he worked as a decorator with Claire and René Batigne, who ran the Tapis Vert workshop, and rubbed shoulders with Marcel Vertès (1895-1961) and Anton Prinner (1902-1983) who introduced him to sculpture. . He married Pyot Gavaudan (1933-), who worked for Marcel Giraud (1897-1985) as a decorator and designer. Together, in 1961, they created their own worksho

A beautiful stoneware lidded marmalade / jam Jar with amazing glaze. Made by Arne Bang, at Holmegaard Stentoj studio, Denmark. Incised monogram "AB" for Arne Bang and model number "9". Good condition, but please note that there are some small chips on the lidd (see pictures). Arne Bang (1901-1983) is known for his exquisite stoneware ceramics. His ceramic output are entirely original and present a style of its own among Danish Art Pottery with a focus of technical excellence and innovation. Arne Bang studied under the well known sculptor Niels Hansen prior to attending the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen 1920 - 1925 studying under Utzon-Frank, And later again 1928 – 1929 where he graduated.
