Chartres Cathedral is a medieval Catholic cathedral of the Latin Church located in Chartres, France, about 80k/(50mi) southwest of Paris. It is considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The current cathedral was constructed between 1194 and 1250.
This church is renowned as being one of the five important Romanesque churches in the Auvergne(at Orcival,Clermont-Ferrand,Issoire,Saint-Nectaire and Saint-Saturnin)This church was built in the middle of the 12th c.in honour of St. Nectaire by the monks of La Chaise-Dieu.It was built on the site of the shrine erected by Nectaire Auvergne on Mount Cornadore.It features 103 capitals.The building is a typical of the Auvergne,with an octagonal crossing tower and a round apse with radiating chapels.
