when he wakes up and finds himself in a wood unknown and feels the eyes of forgotten monsters on his back, he knows he has to run. when strange wounds appear on dead carcasses scattered about the forest, he knows that they're watching. when the witches bid him be careful and fill his palms with protection spells and herbs, when he sees that the trees are marked by something, when the foxes stop screaming and the birds mute themselves in fear, he knows time is short. the growls follow him at night, and though a fever rages, an end of tooth and claw is drawing closer. • the beast • • the twins • • the girl • • the dogs and their boy • • the boy with white hair •
