I bought some new peony varieties without a clear planting plan, so I ended up growing them in plastic containers. This allows me to design my garden while helping the peonies bulk up. After two years of care, here are my tips: 1. **Choose the Right Pot**: Use a container at least 12 inches deep and wide, ideally 18 inches, with drainage. 2. **Soil and Sunlight**: Fill it with rich, well-draining potting mix and place it where it receives at least 6 hours of sunlight. 3. **Watering**: Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch feels dry. 4. **Temperature Watch**: Protect from extreme temperatures below -20°F and prevent overheating in summer (specifically the roots) by grouping with other plants. 5. **Fertilization**: Feed with balanced fertilizer in early spring and after blooming. 6. **Patience**: In the first year, snip the buds to encourage stronger growth for more blooms next year. #peonies #peony #perennial #flowersofinstagram #flowers #cutflowers #homegrown #flowerstagram #cutflowersfrommygarden #gardening #homegrownflowers #homegarden #flowerarrangement #gardening #garden #potted #pottedplants #pottedplant | Panat | Facebook

One mistake I see beginner gardeners making all the time is assuming that all hydrangeas can be treated equally. 🌸 Not the case! ⚠️ Some varieties actually need more sun to bloom, while others prefer more shade. ☀️ Here’s a quick list for you to refer back to when choosing the type of hydrangea that will work best for the sun on your property ⬇️ ☀️ Best for full sun areas: 🌸 Panicle hydrangeas (the most sun tolerant type). Common varieties include limelights, fire light, pinky winky, and quick fire. This is the best type for handling hot sun in the afternoon. 🌤️Best for part sun to part shade: 🌸 Smooth hydrangeas. Common varieties include anabelle, incrediball and invinciball This type typically prefers morning sun with some afternoon shade. ⛅️ Best for mostly shade (although all hydrangeas do need at least a little sun): 🌸 Oakleaf hydrangeas: Common varieties include ruby slippers, alice and snowflake 🌸 Big Leaf / French hydrangeas: Common varieties include endless summer, big daddy, bloomstruck and cityline ✨There is some nuance to this as your growing zone also needs to be factored in. ie. In warmer zones you might need more afternoon shade than others. ☀️ If you need help figuring out how much sun you’re getting in your garden, comment “SUN” and I’ll send you my free step-by-step guide to get you started!☀️ There’s so much more to share and keep learning about when it comes to hydrangeas! What questions do you have or tips can you share about growing them? 🌸 #hydrangeas #hydrangea #hydrangealove #beginnergardener #backyardgardener #homeandgarden #gardeningtips #gardening101 #flowergarden | Wkndgardener | Facebook

I honestly don’t even notice they are gone!😜 We can grow SO many beautiful flowers, dwelling on what we can’t grow won’t get you anywhere! Ranunculus, lisianthus, and roses to name a few flowers that give off a similar vibe. My advice for anyone living in a hot place and needs a peony fix - buy a bunch every spring for your local florist! They have all the peony hookups in May into June 🥰 | John | Facebook

Many beautiful (but fussy) big leaf Macrophylla hydrangeas are sold in nurseries but just because they look great there doesn’t mean they’ll bloom beautifully in your garden! If anyone complains to me that their hydrangeas aren’t blooming 90% of the time it’s a fussy Macrophylla. These are high maintenance plants that need the perfect amount of sunlight exposure & water (moist but not wet) to bloom well (if they flower at all) & if you miss just one watering they’ll stop blooming for the rest of the year 😭. But if you live in a warmer & particularl
