Here is another one of my favorite sketchbook pages from this year, which I intend to use to create a larger piece. This sketch is inspired by a trip to the Morton Arboretum over the summer and I *think* this is a Linden tree. I was mesmerized by the pattern of shadow and light, and I had fun using a vibrant violet in the shadow areas. 😊

Painting in progress … Next I like to establish the darkest parts of my foreground. This sets the limit for darkness in this scene and all future colors will be lighter than these darks. I usually prefer to paint from dark to light. What about you? JimMusil.com/learn
