Scrub your tools with baking soda paste, toothbrush, steel wool, or scouring sponge. Apply oil after the tools are thoroughly dried. I used mineral oil since that’s what we had on hand. You can use a wide variety of oils including, linseed, camellia, multi-purpose mineral oil or WD-40. Vegetable oils can also be used, but won’t provide long term protection from rust and lubrication and will go rancid. I have found better ways to support my tomatoes over the years and that resulted in a pile of old school tomato cages languishing behind my garden shed.
