Holo Basecoat Comparison and Review!

So, holographic polishes can be hard to deal with. They can be streaky, especially as you add more layers of polish.  This is my review on different base coats that I used with the most holographic polish I own, MakeUpStore Greta. I do not own the Nfu Oh Aqua Base, but after this review I don't think I will need it.

Overview and ratings:
1st place: Pinky: Nail Foil Glue
2nd place: Middle: G&G Stuck on Blu
3rd place: Ring: LA Colors Blue base
4th place: Pointer: Gelous

From top to bottom, I will go through the base coat, how well it applied, how the polish applied, and how it looked afterwards.  For all of these photos I used 1 coat of base coat, followed by 2 coats of polish.

  • Pointer: Gelous Base Coat:   Gelous is just a regular base coat, so it didn't do anything spectacular. The polish went on the streakiest with Gelous compared to the other 3, and in the photo you can tell it. This was the worst of all of the base coats.
  • Middle: Glisten and Glow's Stuck on Blu Base coat: (purchase here) This is a new base coat from Glisten and Glow which was sent to me for review. I thought the true test of its abilities would be with a holo, and I have to say, that it applied very well. Of all the ones tested it would have to be my second favorite base coat for holo polishes following the pinky finger. The first coat was not very streaky, and the second coat was fine as well. This basecoat is great for general use, and I have been using it daily.
  • Ring: LA Colors Blue Base coat: This one has been raved about as a cheap alternative to the aqua base, so I had to try it out on my base coat test, and this one would come in 3rd.  It was still a little streaky, more streaky than Stuck on Blu, when the second coat was applied. I also had a bald patch which shows up in the nail.
  • Pinky: Nail Foil Glue:  This one I have to say worked the best. I used Nail Foil Glue for the base coat, and it worked magic on my nails.  The first coat was much more holographic than the previous fingers, and the second coat was perfection.  I will definitely be using this one as my base coat for holos from now on, because it literally held on to the holographic pigments in the polish.
Nail foil glue definitely worked the best of all of the ones tried, followed by the Glisten and Glow Stuck on Blu base coat. The worst contender was Gelous, which was kind of expected as a holo base coat.

****UPDATE****
It has only been 9 hours since applying this polish without topcoat, and the nail foil glue has chipped at the tips.  All other nails are holding up just fine.

Psych Week of Colors: Green

I know I'm a little behind, but with classes starting it doesn't exactly make this easy. lol

Here it is: Green

"Currently the most popular decorating color, green symbolizes nature. It is the easiest color on the eye and can improve vision. It is a calming, refreshing color. People waiting to appear on TV sit in "green rooms" to relax. Hospitals often use green because it relaxes patients. Brides in the Middle Ages wore green to symbolize fertility. Dark green is masculine, conservative, and implies wealth. However, seamstresses often refuse to use green thread on the eve of a fashion show for fear it will bring bad luck."

I am using Nubar Reclaim.  I ordered this with my amazon giftcard, and boy am I happy with my purchase.  It is an amazing green linear holographic polish.  and I mean AMAZING.

Here she is!

I just love that rainbow.

Double-Holo Tip Mani

Ok, so  I went home and only brought a few polishes with me, and I had to bring along my favorite Color Club, Warhol.  Every time I put it on, it just pops at me.  and of course I couldn't leave it alone, so I did some holo tips!  but not any holo tips... double holo tips.. lol.

I used Color Club Warhol as the base, Color Club FashionAddict as the bottom tip color, and Sally  Hansen Ruby Diamond as the top tip color.  I free-handed these.  Check it out.

Color Club Holographic!

These are the 3 Color Club Holographic polishes I own. I wanted to show the holographic goodness of these polishes for anyone who was debating whether or not they are worth it.  You can find them at the Bed Bath and Beyond stores that have the Harmon Face Values beauty center in them. You can find them on their site because they have a Health and Beauty sign next to them on the site.

Color Club Revvvolution

This is another polish I got from Krissi!  It is the holographic version of Revvvolution.  It is the final released version of it, which is holographic.  There was a period where they had a bad batch I believe, but the one I got is not, it is holographic as you can see.

It is a Charcoal Grey linear holographic polish.

(ignore the lobster hands, i photographed these at night)

And one in the sun!

Color Club Fashion Addict. A cool holographic that comes to life in the sun. It is a pale lilac, with awesome holographic shimmer. This is one of the polishes I got from Krissi in my awesome swap! You can see the rainbows in this polish, which is why I love it so much. This is one of the 3 linear holographic polishes I own.

Today I have OPI DS Reserve for you.  yes, take in this beauty.  It is a very dusty pink with subtle hologrpahic shimmer.

Day 17 - SH Diamond

For todays untried I have Sally Hansen Nail Prisms in Diamond.  It came in the pack with Ruby Diamond.  This one was the non-holographic version, and I think that my pictures do it more justice than it deserves, because it does not look this holographic to me unless it is in direct sunlight.

This is one layer of Diamond over Wet N Wild Ebony Hates Chris.

And I like to do nail art on my manis so I decided to do a zebra print with my black striper! I think that it is an easy to get cool designs.

Day 16: NYX Girls Frizz Spots

I am so proud of myself for keeping up with this every day!  we are a little over halfway through this 30 days challenge and I am loving all of my fellow bloggers posts! be sure to check them out at the bottom of this post!

Today I have an amazing polish for you guys that  I got for $1 at a local beauty supply.  It was totally worth it because it is FABULOUS.  It is NYX Girls Frizz Spots.  It is a black jelly base with holographic normal sized glitter and holographic hex glitter.  Just look at its amazingness in the bottle!

I was so excited to try this one on!  I layered it over black, because I find that most jelly glitters do not have an opaque enough base for my liking. This is one coat of NYX Girls over one coat of  Wet N Wild Ebony Hates Chris.  This beauty layered over black just makes me happy.  take a look for yourselves...

I am very pleased with this glitter.  Now for the removal... that is the worst!  I found a new method of removing glitter so we shall see if it works and I will definitely let you know how it works out!

Day 7! OPI - My Private Jet

Day 7 of our Untrieds challenge!

Today I have OPI's My Private Jet for you.  It is the new version, but I still think that it is fabulous. It looks as though It has a brown base in the bottle, but on my nails in the sunlight it looks to be grey.  It also has scattered holographic glitter throughout, which is amazing.  It goes perfect with my outfit today. ;)

Warning picture spam. :P

Hope you liked these. ;)
