about

Vanishing Point is Calgaréal’s first studio LP and presents an array of original compositions. Each piece displays the personality of its composer as well as their unique influences, which include traditional music (French, Balkan, Chinese, Flamenco), jazz, new music, and soup commercials.
All compositions give their own answers to questions around identity and conversations. Individual identities, ethnic identities, belonging to a place, and how these can converse between each other.
The result is a unique musical journey taking the listener from folk dance parties to free improvisation, passing through hazy jazz, an absurdist song, steamy flamenco… all tied together by a strong 8-piece band. The album is peppered with short “Dialogues” each between a different musician from Calgary and one from Montréal.
