A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

A Die Cut Bird and a Circle

Playing along with the Tic Tac Toe Challenge and CAS Mix Up, and getting a friend's birthday card made.

I started out by creating my background - green and blue Magicals sprinkled on mixed media cs and spritzed with water.  I stamped a foliage stamp on it with black ink.

I stamped and heat embossed the bird, then die cut it.

On a white panel, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment, trimmed it with a stitched rectangle die, and die cut a circle out of the upper centre.

I layered the panel over the background using foam tape for dimension, added it to the card base, and added the die cut bird to the top, popping up its head on foam tape where it goes over the background.

I chose the centre vertical row - "die cut - circle - bird" from the Tic Tac Toe Challenge.

CAS Mix-Up - anything that flies with watercolour as a main element - my Magicals are my watercolour element.

A Triangular Poinsettia and A Dog with Gifts

Two Christmas cards today!

First up for The Flower Challenge "Shaped Cards":

I have a triangular card:

The card base is a red tri-fold triangle.  I added a white layer that I embossed with an embossing folder of tiny triangles.

I put a scrap of white cs in my MISTI, inked up the poinsettia / holly sprig with markers, and die cut it with its matching die.  I found a tiny sentiment that just fits in the top section.

Today's second card is for the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown "Gifts":

And the Penny Black Saturday Challenge "Something New".

And the ABC Christmas Challenge "B is for Bingo":

I chose the centre vertical column.

I love the Penny Black sets with the adorable animals, especially the dogs that look very much like my English Cocker Spaniel.

Stamped, coloured with Prismacolour pencils and Gamsol, die cut with a wonky circles die, and bordered with red.  The wonky circles seemed to fit the idea of the dog trying to balance those gifts!

Thanks for stopping by today to see two more of my cards!

Poinsettia Day

Thanks to the wonderful Mac (Sweetest of Peas), I've discovered a new challenge, Day of the Month.  Not only do you get to enter, but you also get to vote on your three favourites of the entries - a fun twist on a challenge.

The current challenge is Poinsettia Day.

I used a stamp I've had for ages from a Vancouver stamp company, Local King.  I also inked it up with their markers, using the technique they demonstrate in this video (go to around 4:50 in the video).

I stamped a pale background in Adirondack Lake Mist on glossy cs with the poinsettia stamp and a small text stamp.  Then inked up the poinsettia stamp by randomly swiping the markers over it.  Trimmed it, bordered with a scrap of copper cs, and popped it up on fun foam on a red card base.

Looking forward to seeing what "days" this challenge comes up with next year!

Markered Birds

The July challenge over at CAS Mix Up is "Markers".

Here's my Design Team card for the challenge.  I have stamping, markers, and several "your choice" elements (sponging, die cuts, and heat embossing).

The bird stamps are from a company based in Vancouver where I live.  It is called Local King Rubber Stamp - they make stamps, some dies, and also sell a set of markers and glossy card stock for the technique they teach for colouring their stamps with their markers.

I used the Local King markers in a variety of colours to colour my bird stamps.  I stamped them on glossy cardstock and then sponged around the birds.  I bordered the panel with black, glued on a die cut branch under the birds' feet, and added a stamped and heat embossed sentiment.  I let the branch and sentiment hang over the edges of the focal panel to add more interest.

Our CAS Mix Up challenge runs until July 24 so get out some markers and stamps, and think of at least one other element to add to them (for ideas see the right hand column over at the CAS Mix Up blog).  We'd love to have you join us but please remember it is a CAS challenge so we are looking for clean and simple cards only!

Supplies:
Stamps - Local King Rubber Stamp birds, SU Happy Birthday
Ink - ColorBox frost white for the sentiment
Paper - Gina K white for the cardbase, black and brown cs, glossy cs
Size - A2
Accessories - Local King Rubber Stamp markers, white embossing powder, Memory Box branch die
