A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Sheep in Woolly Sweaters

Back in July, Jane (of Purplejet Loves Crafts) created an adorable card using two sheep in woolly sweaters.  See her card here.  I fell in love with the image and went searching for it but sadly it is discontinued.  Jane kindly stamped a few off for me and mailed them.  Here's the first card I've made from them:

I coloured the image with coloured pencils, including a metallic gold pencil for the big star and the stars on the red sweater. I went over the stars with Wink of Stella and over the snowflakes on the blue sweater with a Stardust Glitter gel pen for some shine and used a dark gold shimmer cs for the card base.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown is asking us to choose any challenge from 2020.  I chose "Winter Sweaters".

I've also posted it at Splitcoaststampers for two of this week's challenges - the CAS Challenge "Sweater Weather" and the Ways to Use It Challenge "Inspired by a Song".  The sentiment is two lines from the carol "The First Noel".

Supplies:
Stamps - Inky Doodles Christmas Jumpers
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper - white cs, dark gold shimmer cs
Size - A2
Accessories - coloured pencils, Stardust Glitter gel pen, stitched circle die

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

This week's SCS CAS challenge is asking for a card relating to our Christmas Eve traditions.  I love to sit by the fire and listen to beautiful Christmas carols, especially those by fabulous choirs like Kings College, Cambridge.

Here's a You Tube video of them performing Hark the Herald Angels Sing to put you in the mood of this card:

You might not be able to see it, but this stamp has the words "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" written across the top.

I used a snippet of Yupo coloured with blue alcohol inks from my box of backgrounds. With the stamp in my MISTI so it wouldn't smudge on the Yupo, I used black pigment ink and clear embossing powder.

Trimmed the image, bordered with a scrap of slightly shiny black cs, and popped it up on a shimmery white card base.

I'm linking it up at the following challenges:

Snippets Pixie's Playground (I used snippets of background and black cs from my leftovers)

Christmas Kickstart Challenge "Last Minute Madness" - making a card on Dec. 24th is definitely last minute!

Supplies:
Stamps - Deep Red
Ink - various blue alcohol inks, Versafine Onyx Black
Paper - white shimmer cs, black cs, Yupo
Size - 4.75" square
Accessories - clear embossing powder, fun foam

Musical Notation with Bells

The 52 Christmas Card Throwdown wants us to pick one of the challenges from 2017.  I chose April 2017:

Here's my card:

I die cut the bells out of scraps of white cs, rubbed Versamark over them and added the new Emerald Creek Charred Gold embossing powder, and then repeated both steps again to get a lovely thick coating that really looks like metal. I die cut another set of the bells and glued them to the backs of the heat embossed ones to give more substance.

The sentiment (that is words to a carol so appropriate with the musical notation background) is heat embossed with a detail platinum embossing powder and then trimmed with a deckle edge die.

Bells and sentiment are mounted on a music embossed background, and for the cords on the bells, I twisted pieces of both gold and silver SU metallic cord together - blended together they are closer in colour to the bells.

I hope you're all enjoying the Christmas music.  I don't like it to start too early - round about now is when I always start listening.

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black sentiment
Ink - Versamark
Paper - white cs
Size - A2
Accessories - Lil Inker Jingle Bells dies, PSX Platinum embossing powder, Emerald Creek Charred Gold embossing powder, Sizzix embossing folder, Spellbinders deckle edge die, SU gold and silver cord
