A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Pink Snowy Village and Starry Song

Every year the Jingle Belles challenge hosts "Pink Christmas" and they donate $2 to breast cancer research for every card linked up.  It's also going to Sparkles "Non-Traditional Christmas Colours" challenge.  Here's my pink Christmas card:

I went through my unused background pieces and found three different pink pieces (one sponged, one sprayed, and one stencilled).  I die cut a house and a couple of snowflakes out of each, and then the sentiment out of two of them.  I used a narrow embossing folder of snowflakes on my focal panel and then glued all my die cuts on to it.  I added it to the card base with some thin dimensional tape.

For a second card today, I used lines from a song to make a card for Sweet Stampin' "Inspired by a Book, Song, or Film".  It's also for the Word Power challenge where the sentiment is the focus of the card.

I have some really old red laser-cut star paper that I haven't used for many years and thought it could go with the words from a Christmas carol.  I layered a piece of it over gold glitter cs and put them on a white cardbase. Then stamped and heat embossed the sentiment in gold on white cs, and die cut it with a fancy label die.

Valentines, Houses, and Berries

Sneaking in under the wire with a Valentine card for Festive Friday "Valentine's Day" (I chose red, hearts, and a love sentiment out of their required elements list) and the Tic Tac Toe challenge (I chose the left hand vertical row of heart, red, and die cut).  I'm adding it to the AAA CAS Valentine challenge as well.

I found the die cut heart that had text stamped on it in my UFO box. It's leftover from this card made back in 2022. So I decided to turn it into a Valentine for this year.

I dry embossed a strip of hearts across the card base, layered the heart on it, added a die cut sentiment, and a small matching solid red heart to the centre of the big heart.

And also sneaking under the wire with a Christmas card for the Jingle Belles challenge "Something Old ... Something New".  I have a very old window die and some old little snowflake dies combined with some new house dies.

I die cut the window out of cream cs and glued it to a white cardbase. I die cut the snowflakes and houses out of kraft cs and smooshed them into some brown Distress inks smeared on my craft mat. Added them to the card along with a stamped sentiment.

And today I have a Threefer so that I can sneak in under the wire once more.  This time it's for My Time to Craft Christmas "Berries".  I'm also adding it to the ABC Christmas challenge "B is for Berries".

It seemed a great opportunity to use up some berry-covered dp.  I paired it with an image that also has some berries on it.  I coloured the image with watercolour paints and cut my focal image with a circle die.  I cut a slightly larger circle out of a shimmer cs that's the closest colour I had to the stems in the dp and the leaves in the image for a border.

A-Colouring I Will Go

Jingle Belles have a great challenge "A-Coloring We Will Go".  I'm watching lots of the Winter Olympics and, during the sports I'm not that interested in, I work on cards, do my email, fold laundry, etc.  So colouring an image fits right in with all that!

I stamped the image, and then coloured it with Copic markers.  I went over the moon with Wink of Stella (but it doesn't show up in the photo) and over the stars with a Stardust gel pen (they do look sort of sparkly in the photo).

I trimmed it, matted it with rainbow glitter cs, and popped it up with fun foam on a white cardbase.

I'm also posting it on SCS Christmas Card Challenge where the suggested theme for February is Santa and his reindeer.

A few more days of the Olympics to go so I'm planning to colour some more images!

Rainbow Christmas

A quick card for the Jingle Belles challenge "Here Comes Santa Claus" and the Christmas Card Throwdown challenge:

I chose a stamp that lends itself to being coloured with several different colours and includes Santa Claus.

I stamped in black and then coloured the houses and moon with Copic markers.  I layered it to create a thin black border and popped it up with fun foam on a red card base.

Another one for my stash!
